Every time a non-RPer makes a war in Warcraft post and makes claims about bypassing because they didn’t actually read the original post, take a drink.
Fact: Cross faction communication has been available for a while: Pandaren, mages, void elves and blood elves, demon hunters. Battletag. Battlenet groups.
What this add-on did: Reframed content posted in a Battlenet group to be more like regular in game actions. Filtered out content from people greater than 40 yards from them.
Unless Blizzard wants that to be something unique for those races/classes, and doesn’t want some addon bypassing a restriction. They’ve broken other addons for the same reason, yes there are external sources as well but that doesn’t change the fact that they don’t want it happening in game.
Every time a rper uses fallacy to paint the us vs them mentality while also expecting special treatment for their club take a drink.
You just admitted that the addon bypassed an in game restriction, that’s something Blizzard doesn’t want addons doing. You can disagree with it, but atleast acknowledge the reason this addon was broken.
It’s worth keeping in mind with regard to this topic that the lore absurdity of the faction communication barrier isn’t really relevant. Blizzard’s core value has always been “gameplay first.” They will always choose the measure that enforces their vision of the gameplay even if it contradicts their lore. Arguing for lore-friendly cross-faction communication won’t sway them.
A much more relevant argument, an one which people have repeatedly made in this thread alone, is that the faction barrier offers zero gameplay benefit and significant gameplay hindrance. It is an unnecessary, counterproductive relic of ten-year-old game design philosophy which has been left behind by every other major MMO still on the market.
It’s time for Blizzard to step into this decade. If they won’t give us CrossRP back, they should definitely eliminate the silly chat barrier and make it irrelevant.
except, earlier this year, the rp community reached out to blizzard specifically to see if this addon was ok,because MG host this event yearly/bi yearly and we wanted to incorporate
its use.
blizz told mg it was fine and all the way -until 8.1- it was ok. so why it was broken by blizzard is confusing and frustrating after we,as a playerbase, did everything to make sure the addon wouldnt be messed with it and were given the ok,only for them to mess it up -without any explanation- is…wrong.
Imagine you thought these forums were bland. You program a special thingy so that on your screen, the writing is bright yellow and in comic sans font. Are you breaking the forums? No. You’re making them look different.
That’s literally what cross rp did for communities and blizzard groups. It reframed them to look different.
Nothing was bypassed. Nothing was broken. It made an existing feature look better.
Maybe something caused Blizzard to change its mind. Should they give a reason sure. But they aren’t obligated to do so, they are well with in their write as owners of the game to make changes as they see fit. It doesn’t mean they’re always right, but those are the facts.
WIthout the addon can you talk to the other faction as a human? No, the addon is letting those who play a human character bypass the in game faction barrier. Doing so either by changing game files or taking advantage of an exploit in the system. Both of which are against the ToS.
We are similarly entitled to express our displeasure with a pointless decision that harms us. We aren’t yet in the cyberpunk future where companies can just do whatever they want and we have to accept it with no recourse.
Yes, you can! With BNet communities, which is what the addon utilizes.
I also just learned you can accidentally misattribute quotes. I’m certain that will never be abused in the history of this forum.
Yes, by joining a Blizzard community that the person on the other faction is in, or adding them as Battle-net friend.
All the addon does is take the text from said community/b.net conversation and shove it into /s, /e or /y instead of /[channel number] or /[person you’re whispering]
So maybe they want to keep that conversation inside the community framework. But it seems you have a solution to the problem as well, create a community.
Voicing my concern for this addon as well. It’s a godsend for cross-faction events (which are extremely popular given the nature of the story surrounding BfA) and without it, we’re back to square one copypasting messages or adding strangers to our B.Tag just so we can communicate with them individually, which really isn’t fun at all.
Hi, I currently develop the MyRolePlay (MRP) addon. I’d like to add my support to reverting this.
I play on Moon Guard, and participated in the Tournament of Ages event where Cross RP was enormously successful and vastly added to the quality of the event.
It is not uncommon for players to host large-scale gatherings involving both factions on roleplay servers. Blocking this addon’s functionality really feels unnecessary to me and I feel it’s a step backwards for the roleplay community. I also have not heard of a single case where it has been misused, yet. The author has even built specific conditions in, as explained above to prevent misuse. Please reconsider this decision.
This is why “just make a community” doesn’t work: without CrossRP, it’s a huge amount of overhead and doesn’t scale at all. You’re basically restricted to no more than a couple people, which makes any sort of event impossible.
To anyone not running CrossRP and not in the community channel, /say and /emote is totally normal. They’d see Orcish or Common and “…makes some strange gestures.”
…I’m not entirely sure what guard AI - or the decisions of individual guard RPers, if there are any - has to do with any of this.
If only I had more likes to give to all the beautiful people supporting this thread.
Throwing my support in. Usually I would make a long winded post but with every hotfix, every patchnote, every new update, I find myself wondering why I care about this game anymore.
Don’t disrespect roleplayers. When the game has crumbled, when the pvers have slain their last boss, when the pvpers have tired of their games, when even the collectors run out of things to collect, roleplayers will still be breathing life into your game. Don’t take this one user-made gift from us. You already take so much else from us…
There’s literally zero reason to not have this Addon functional. Sure, the lv55 DK guy keeps Naysaying it as if is exploiting the game and giving RPers some kind on Non-existent advantage. Cross RP literally only worked for people who are A) Had the Addon and B) Were in the same community set up for Cross RP.
Also: to the guy who keeps going “Well a human can’t understand the other factions so pfffffftttt”. I gotta say this: Demon Hunters of opposite factions can talk to one another, Pandaren of opposite factions can talk to one another, Void Elves and Blood Elves can talk to one another. So really get that weak argument out of here. Cross RP didn’t hurt anyone.
Sadly, despite this overwhelming of support of this thread, I get a solid feeling it will be ignored, just like most things the roleplaying community complains about. But one can hope I suppose, I have yet to see a blue post or even a response from a blizzard representative on this.
For a time we weren’t ignored about the divisive nature of sharding and how it splits and alienates the community. They made RP-realms an exception to keep our immersion.
For most of Legion I didn’t experience it… But now with BFA I can say I’ll meet my guild in Legion Dalaran and not see them unless I’m in a party.
That Blizzard give and Blizzard taketh away is really drearily Pavlovian.
