Patch 10.0.7 Initial Thoughts

I have 6 toons at 60 and this has ALL of them geared to near 390ish each. I also have a ton of stockpile items for the next few alts I plan on leveling these next few weeks.

The thing that roadblocked me is the fact that I have 6 leather chests but I have only ever seen 1 ring item. A solution to trade or “break” the gear into a currency similar to the ring’s gems would be greatly appreciated.

Story wise, it is a good addition that leaves a lot of story line flexibility for 10.1. It has also done a great job of player retention, this is one of those slow times where Heroic raids have trailed off and replaced by a few M+ teams pushing for optimized gear so giving an option to gear alts to wet appetites for an alt normal raid night is great.

I enjoyed the questing in the new zone and was pleasantly surprised to see BOA gear dropping there. Really nice to help get my undergeared alts some catch-up stuff.

The one obvious complaint is the ring. I’ve seen tons of people clamoring for secondary stats and less power in the gem effects. Losing that much haste on a ring can potentially alter the playstyle of your spec or force you into retooling all of your gear that you’ve worked for months to carefully optimize, which can be expensive and time-consuming. The yo-yo’ing of buffs/nerfs the first few days was hard to keep up with and also seemed like a potential gold-sink.

The other complaint I’ve seen from a lot of my PvP friends is that Ret paladins absolutely took over the PvP ladder. It took quite a bit of time for any reactionary changes to their power in PvP, but I feel that allowing them to 1-shot people for too long could cause a lot of harm to the already fragile PvP ecosystem. Would have liked to see some quicker hotfixes there, for their sake.

I believe it’s already being addressed, but the crafting order system changes caught me a bit off-guard. Having people tip 1 silver for a craft that requires hundreds to thousands of gold worth of materials that were not being provided felt like intentional griefing/scamming. Thank goodness for the Ignore feature there, which allows you to block some of these people trying to take advantage.

Plenty of good things came with the patch, though, so I don’t want to seem like a downer! I’m actually swapping to Ret for raiding next tier and the changes have felt phenomenal. I’m no longer bogged down with tons of buttons and mini-CDs to press/manage and it just feels a lot smoother to play. Kudos to these changes. Would have liked to see the “holy leap” ability added for some more mobility, but the Ret kit feels much improved. Kudos for this in-season rework.

  • Nice to have a new mini zine in a mid-season patch
  • The vaults are fun little mini games. Enjoy going in there and poking around. Open doors is fun and exciting
  • I like the annulet ring customization. I was worried about balance, but the fact that you get so many gems and upgrade material, its very easy to swap out new gem and level them up.
  • Very clever design giving use the ability to buy multiple annulet rings. It would have been very frustrating to only have one ring.
  • Alt catchup gear tokens that drop are great. They are plentiful and account bound, so its easy to gear up my alts.
  • Story quests on the Forbidden reach were great. Felt like they had very good production value.
  • I play more Holy Paladin than Ret, so I can’t give super deep feedback, but I can say that it feels lot more fast and fun which is a good thing.

DISLIKE

  • Feels like the only efficient way to get keys to the vault is to farm rares, which gets kinda boring after a while. I like rares dropping keys, but I kinda wish there was more variety in ways to get them (hidden treasure, world quest, daily quest, fishing, chance for normal mobs to drop them, chance to drop from herb/mining nodes, etc)

  • Now that were in the second week, the new vault feels kinda like “more of the same”. I was expecting to get a whole new vault in a different location with a new layout and different rooms, but I now realize its just the same vault remixed.

  • After 1 week, I’ve fully upgraded my ring with BIS gems for all 3 of my specs. Kinda feels like I am “done” with the new content already. Maybe it was a bit too fast, or maybe there needs to be a longer term reward to go after.

  • You need to add a map indicator that shows when a rare/chest is inside a building or cave vs outside.

I enjoy that there’s a refresh of an old zone, goal of eventually being able to afford a unique mount: bruffulon. The new dragon racing courses are neat. Not being grounded is a plus. The alt gear tokens are a nice touch, am looking forward to continuing to mail off gear to my druid (bear) 70 and another spare 70 evoker afterwards. Getting the ring early on in the first week felt like a nice reward. I remember the first day of this patch, my best friend and I were excited (she hadn’t been that excited about a mini patch zone since timeless isle). One minus would be dragon recharging/finding some rares can be difficult, this only happened once but in raid group we couldn’t find where a specific rare was at, outside/in a cave (mildly frustrating, not sure which it was). Getting vault keys is easy. This patch seems nice for returning players/alts to gear while waiting for 10.1.

As an “altoholic”, this patch has been absolutely welcomed! With the Forbidden Reach intro being skippable after the first run through and the easy way to get all my characters geared, its been a very nice experience so far. My only issue ive had so far is the upgrade item for the new gear tokens. It seems the drop rates for them are so much higher on my toons that are well above the level the gear gives and the ones that can actually use them never see them drop. I wish they would at least be account bound or something, having 20 of them in my mains bag seems silly.

Alrighty cracks fingers I have postponed this too long, and I cannot permit it to go further without.

My initial thoughts about 10.0.7 will be cut up into a few pieces.

Deployment:
Smooth deployment of 10.0.7, no hick-ups there for me, other than the common node who decides it wan’ts to be a bird, or the sharp rocks that will cut through your armor and disconnect your soul. ONE thing to take notice to, and it is from experience of my own partner, and newer players, content restrictions and the lack of information. There is no direct information about the needed renown completion for the next patch chapter, while I understand the need to follow the storyline, many think that the next patch just means that another chapter has been unlocked and that they can skip some pages - this is where there needs to be an information window to inform new, or people behind in the grind, that this content holds these requirements for you to advance - preferrably that there are only minimal demands, and not having to go full dive renown for newly released content.

The Vault:
A great and simple design for the ones who does not have time to delve too much into things but I miss more, there needs to be more. I love exploring the vaults, heck, I don’t mind grinding the keys but there needs to be some extention, some challenge/alerts, I would love if it could be functional even after you are done emptying/plnundering (whatever our hobbies call looting). There are a few notes, and that is the vault specific quests, they need to be able to be handed in outside the vault, and not wait for it to circle around to the previous version for you to hand in (In this case for me, the Primordial Core quest, which couldn’t be completed in the same vault as picked up, and now I cannot hand it in). And currently, the Brewfest staff, who will disappear into the rotation too.

The introduction quests were fine but, there needs a heads-up about the very first quest, which asks you to go in for the first time to open ‘A’ vault, after you do that, people tend to go on, but there needs to be more indication that you need to go out and report your findings, as the follow up quest is to open another 3, rewarding additional keys.

The Forbidden Reach:
Brilliant design in my book, got VERY close to that of Timeless Isle, but still having Dragon Riding available. I truly love the layout of the zone, and the placement. There is a good terrain for quick flight, but there are some down sides. I would like if there were a more clear indication of rare locations, as we have to delve into creches and cave. Able to make it more visible about the altitude of the mob in general?

As well, if possible, can we have a way to unlock through a questline, or something, a spotter/scout NPC who will call out “incoming” threats (like, 2-4 minutes before they spawn).

Environment interaction, this is something I’m going to carry on from the Storms in Thaldraszus, as well as into the creches of the Forbidden Reach. I love the use and function of items to make our lives easier in a zone, and fitting for said zone content. The Storms had us use fires to stay warm (would 100% love such for other cold zones), and at the Reach, we need antidotes for a creche to be able to servive, or traverse hostiles as we go deeper down.

Catch-up gear:
As an Altoholic, seeing these new gear tokens added was just, a blessing. Heck, the upgradig of them was pampering but I’ll not deny a second slice of cake if offered!

Heritage - Orcs:
I, am ashamed to admit, that I hold no green skins at high enough level to explore it yet, I am on my way there BUT that being said, I have heard so much praise of including clans, and heroes in making the storyline for it. I am not truly keen on their armor, but that is a personal opinion. Only gripe I have heard is that they didn’t get a title like the humans did. Hehe.

Hertigage - Humans:
This was a wonderful little questline to follow through, and so much better as it took you through a few stages of the past, and indirectly, updated us on the current situation of a certain organizations, as well as how it has passed lately. It was good to see some new names, and an old name returning.

The title, Lionsguard, was truly a surprise to us all, and was really a welcoming addition of fleshing out the layers within the Human ranks.

The armor sets were just well made, giving transmogging within the human kingdoms so many more options in making their own, or appearing as part of the kingdom. The additional use of chest+pants or robe function, was a good addition, giving people an option.

Old Hatreds (Baine’s Questline):
Should’ve guessed that Tauren would be brought in when we arrived to a zone full of Centaurs, so seeing a final addition of the nomadic behavior of Tauren, and the ‘cost’ of it demanding the Chieftan to come handle the situation was a very good addition of storyline (And yes, the totems too!). And with the added information of future content about the Tauren, Centaur, and this zone, I am happy you are pledging time to develop zones during content, and do hope to see much of such.

In-game cinematics:
Now, these made me fall in love, truly, the talk between Ebonhorn and Emberthal was so well made, and the voice acting was on point. Really well done in the part of rigging and animating the models - which makes me think of so many wishes of more emotes for our playable models.

Unsure if I have more to add, if so, I’ll add more! This reply is 100% from a World Content player, not PvPer, or Raider.
