Did they ever actually add a quest chain for level 40? I remember there was supposed to be, but all I remember doing on Warlock is going to Ratchet and talking to the trainer, who’d have a quest that was him basically just saying “There’s supposed to be a quest here, but there isn’t, but there will probably be in the future. Here, have your mount.”

Btw, dire maul won’t be in at release, meaning you won’t be able to do the epic mount quests. If you don’t want to waste gold buying both a normal epic, and funding the quest, then you’re going to be waiting for dire maul to open.

no it wont cost you extra to get the fast mount skill but the time investment will be much higher since both will require a specific dungeon run before its over although in the pallys case there will also be a financial cost incurred as well
yes it will. There is no riding skill because they’re using the old system. (but there’s also no fast mount skill. You get training by mount race for 10g a pop, that simply allows you to use mounts of that race.
So it will cost you 10g (+90g for the mount itself, before any discounts).
Warlock and paladin mounts have no requirements and don’t give you any requirements for other mounts. (this only changed when they switched to the new system, which classic has been confirmed to NOT be using.)
BUT on the other hand you also don’t need training to use Dropped mounts (Deathcharger/ZG mounts/Bug Mounts (Temple only except for Legendary).
you could ding 60 without every touch your mount race training or buying a mount, and get lucky and get Death Charger (very lucky, it’s like 0.1%, though this might be after they boosted it to 1%), and use it immediately as long as you’re level 60. Without spending even 1 copper on riding related expenses.
But even at 40 when you talk to your quest guy and get your free basic class mount, you will still have to pay 10g to use the racial mounts (each). (i.e. if you’re a human paladin and you ding 40 and want a normal mount instead of using your free class mount, you’ll have to pony-up 100g (-discounts) to buy Horse Training and then a horse mount itself. (or X training if you have other races at exalted, just bare in mind that only dwarves/gnomes can use mechstriders, so don’t waste your time/money trying to get exalted with gnomeregan as a NE/Human). (and if you want the winterspring frostsaber, you’ll need wintersaber trainers and darnassus exalted so you can buy the mount and tiger riding respectively, as Frostsaber does require tiger riding).
