Oh dear god. There may be some good replies to this, but I couldn’t slog through the bad ones to get there.
- Guys, I realize that getting the name you want is a big triumph. I failed to get 1 of the 2 I wanted, and it’s really disappointing. That having been said, think carefully if your name is more important to you than the playing experience of the game. I mean think about that hard. Because if the name is more important, you could get that name in another game somewhere, I’m sure. I understand that you want to have your cake and eat it too, but you don’t get everything you want in life.
I want a med pop (by vanilla standards) PvP server with good faction balance and I want a focused PvE guild that can be competitive in terms of server 1sts without going overboard into speedrunning every raid every week.
I’m not likely to get those things, so I rolled on Mankrik, because it’s more important to me that I can reasonably level alts than it is that I can engage in WPvP. Given what I expect the populations to be, leveling alts is going to be all but impossible on the PvP servers.
So move, if you’re on Herod. You have the opportunity now, before you’ve put any time into your character. And no one is going to have any sympathy for you when 6 months from now, you complain that the experience is unplayable. You were warned. If you’re upset over the $7.50 in sub fees you paid for early naming, imagine how upset you’ll be over the months of wasted subs when you can’t get content done because you’re in a queue.

Why does anyone care about the name of their server? Like you’re going to be less embarassed or more proud to tell your coworkers or family that you play Classic WoW on the Thrall server than the Stalagg server? They’re not going to know the difference and the ones that might know the difference aren’t going to judge you by what your server name is. This seems like whining for the sake of whining. It could be named WoWserver 384, if the play experience is what I want, I’m playing on it. Can someone give me a legitimate reason why the server name is important to them?

“Why not just have 1 megaserver?” Because a lot of us don’t want to play on over-crowded realms. I jumped ship from the Nost PvP realm to the Nost PvE realm when it opened up because it was sheer misery trying to play on a server that, at the time, had around 7k concurrent players almost around the clock. Good luck getting rich thorium, or killing named quest mobs, or doing literally anything other than instances without someone jostling your elbow constantly. Now I understand that some people enjoy that experience. I emphatically do not. I even joined another private server to kill time until Classic was released and then quit around level 25 because the contested zones were so miserable. Not STVietnam, just any contested zone. Stonetalon and Ashenvale were bad, Hillsbrad was an absolute nightmare.

How could Blizzard designate a server as “streamer free”? I mean, sure they could tell the large streamers that already exist to roll on a given server, but how would they enforce that? Like someone couldn’t open a new account and use a VPN to obscure where they’re coming from? Is Blizzard supposed to monitor all the streams (good luck with that, there are plenty of people who stream to a nearly empty audience) and ban anyone caught streaming on a given server? It’s just not feasible. You’ve got a gentleman’s agreement where the handful of well-known streamers are on Faerlina and will do most of their streaming there. But you can’t enforce that. It’s just a friendly agreement.

Thats actually a good solution

The need to close Herod until a few days before launch.
No new characters. Allow for Deletion but No new CHaracters
Fair enough my friend. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, and a great time in classic! take care

Personally I think Blizz is doing the best thing for the community. Launch will be crazy no matter what. This is just a fact at this point… There will always be imbalance at the beginning. Seriously, how many “Lanuches” have we been through already?
Personally I think we should just chill (of course saying that to angry people just makes them more angry lol).

If you plan on rolling Herod they pretty much told you to go somewhere else.
That’s pretty clear to me.
If it helps we have another thread that includes other servers that will experience queues. Herod just got put on red alert.

I do think one critical failure on Blizz asking people to move to Stalagg is the cap of 3 names reserved per account.
IF blizz is serious about pushing people to Stalagg, they need to let people push past that 3 character limit even if it is only on a certain realm (like Stalagg).
Example: I have 3 names i like very much and i’d have to delete them on Herod (where i’ll likely end up) just to have a chance to attempt to get it on Stalagg. Why take that chance?
if blizz let us make 1-2 extra names that we could play around with and grab on Stalagg without /deleting other characters; it would provide relief to the players, and funnel more players into Stalagg IMHO

I don’t think they did. The community just did what it always does. They lumped to damn heavily onto a single server. Now just as they have dozens of times before - they will either suffer or move.
Just going to be a chance you take. Are you so attached to names that you are willing to wait in queue for hours on end. Guess we will see!
I feel like the number of people that payed for a sub to reserve names and get in the final stress test is way less than half the people that will show up on launch day. There should be no problem adding at least 1 more server flagged as transfer only for the first day or 2.

Yes
on top of that, the bigger the queue… the more guarantee there is that the server will be more populated long term, imho.

The entire post…/enthusiastic applause
Seriously. We picked the wrong server, so even though we were in during the first 5 seconds of name day, we have to accept losing our names and re-rolling? No.
If Blizzard wants us to move before launch, they’re going to have to make another server open only to Herod transfers who got their names in the first hours of name day with guaranteed name retention. If they don’t do that, nobody is gonna leave. I don’t think that’s too much to ask. I really don’t. NO ONE is going to voluntarily leave the most populous, original new server in Classic without an incentive and they’re sure as heck not going to leave with a penalty, which is currently the only thing on offer.
Don’t punish me for picking an option you gave me, and then we can talk.
It will literally be a game of chicken to see who can endure the queues the longest…and gamer nerds are a stubborn group of folks.

I just asked this question in another thread, but am going to ask it again here in hopes Blizzard sees it.
Why did you not lock the realm when you all saw it was getting overly populated, and especially after it became overly populated?
Now you are asking people to move off of it, why wasn’t it locked? Is it even locked now?

People are a bit exaggerated there if you ask me. We already know that a Medium population server is several times bigger than a FULL 2006 server. These servers are going to be healthy for a long time.

That’s easy… imagine a new player picking up wow classic for the first time to play with a friend on herod, only to be told “Realm full, come back next week”
that’s just a quick /unsub and /uninstall waiting to happen.
it’s horrendous business

Oh i agree, i’m not a doom n gloomer. they will be populated and vibrant for years i hope. i really do.
BUT i have also been trapped on wow realms that lost players to the more populated realms.
i’ve also seen this in many other MMO’s, where the pvp players migrate to the most populated PVP server over time… which creates a snowball affect that can’t be fixed.
One good thing though is that i believe we have cross realm pvp, right? that could be a relief
Well it seems that if I want a medium server I will likely have to find a low server, with the increase capacity.
Well I will probably activate account day before launch and wonder how many others will.

I agree. They need to lock all servers that are currently full. It is not uncommon for that to happen in MMO’s. If they want to play with their friends they will move servers HOWEVER it needs to happen now before launch.
They are going to lose subs if they have a high Q. Let’s face it…this game is 15 years old. It’s not fresh and new, so people won’t have patience for that type of wait. It is better it gets worked out now.

Yes people seem to be fear mongering a bit regarding server sizes. Medium is still a big population in comparison to old days. I actually had a wonderful experience in a medium populated server, it was really tight knit and everyone knew each other. I appreciate the rural community feel.
There is only one PvP realm for my location lol, so we will see what we end up with.
