The issue is monks don’t mitigate as much dmg, but instead get increased healing, similar to bear druids. Druid works great cause they are a big meaty health sponge to give wiggle room for poor dodge RNG, and the extra healing received acts as damage mitigation.
Monk stagger works well against physical for giving a large “effective health pool” in a way and receive bonus healing to act as mitigation in a way, but not so much for magical, they can get bursted down by magic dmg really easily.
It isn’t that much weaker, yeah at the end of bfa we could get it to 85% or so with ISB, now we have it at 67% ish (can’t remember exact number) with the added bonus of celestial brew to help with the mitigation of magical attacks.
I main a Prot Warrior (this character) and have lately been playing a Brewmaster Monk. The lower HP is slightly painful but I love how beautiful the brewmaster mitigation works, a good brewmaster is like a nicely oiled machine
Damage Comes in --> You Stagger --> You Drink your Purification Brew – > You use celestial brew when needed and with the legendary it’s just a nonstop purification, It’s truly beautiful
The Brewmaster feels more wonderful to play than my Prot Warrior with ilvl 217 gear. I actually tanked Heroic Sire with him the other day with ilvl 197 and got him to 3% lol
I feel this. Every once and a while I’ll jump on this paladin and tank a few dungeons to level. And I’ll get into a situation where if I was on my monk I would handle this just doing monk things but you can’t monk things on a paladin
The other day i was on my BM MONK ilvl 210 and the healer shaman came into the my mythic 15 and started to criticize my HP saying he never seen such a low HP pool on a tank 49k*. I gave him a chance, but i ended up kicking because he was so damn adamant that its so low.
Almost every tank needs help with M+ or dungeon design needs to change. Kiting meta has been atrociously bad for every tank and I had friends quit the tanking role or the game altogether because of it.
Raids are pretty much fine, but every tanks that’s not a DH could seriously use some tankiness buffs in M+ to help get away from this degenerate meta. Higher HP and armor buffs for BrM seems like a good idea for me, and maybe better magical stagger in this case.
I completely agree that the kiting meta is horrific. I hate every aspect of it, i didn’t make a tank to be a Frost mage. But since it’s rather well balanced in raid content I think that is the dungeons that need to change. I won’t do super high level keys as a tank for a few reasons right now and chief among that is the expectation to kite everything. Not my tanking style. Of course there are always mechanics you need to move away from but that’s a mechanic put in there on purpose.
So buff tanks vs nerf m+ is an interesting discussion.
m+ seems fine with respects to dps being able to eat a hit or two and for aoe situations, it feels for the most part fine. So reducing m+ damage taken might have unforseen side effects or make it too easy. Where as a tank buff only has an impact on tanks.
Also, tanks like dk, warrior, BrM need buffs in pvp as well. Right now you only really see DH and Guardian druids in pvp. I don’t have a lot of experience with brew in pvp but Kanstilxd does.
Make monks Mail users! Leather is worn by 4 classes and mail by 2. Mail still makes sense for monks and will even out some tank damage. Mail for monks!
Maybe that was true in Legion/BFA, but stagger is greatly nerfed in SL. In fact, BrMs aren’t even top 3 tanky tanks anymore. They were easily #1 for half of Legion and most of BFA.
With that said, I’d happily take a 5 seconds off CB and removal of its GCD.
