And Everquest had leveling and Alt points since the beginning. (AA started in the expansion).
You cant just change things 20 years later. Adding AA points vs leveling would fundamentally change the entire game and would be insane to balance when they have trouble balancing class trees as it is.
I think WoW could really benefit from some horizontal progression instead of the constant vertical treadmill.

I agree but horizontal progression is another word for systems and wow players get really triggered by that.
Honestly, i’m ambivalent on this because on one hand leveling does provide some progression.
On the other though, you can have progression without higher lvl cap, for example you can have secondary ways of earning talent points, and a bigger problem is that leveling makes old content irrelevant, or at least harder to make relevant again, which is one of the biggest issues i have with wow, so much content, and only a small amount is relevant.
But i do not want only horizontal progression. Vertical progression is just as important, if not more frankly speaking.

There is nothing wrong with leveling other wise it’s just pointless to do the story line and quests.
Yes, unless they revamp the entire system towards something akin to SWG where you start with all your talent points and then use xp to spend them… and at this point that seems like a massive waste of time. The game is just fundamentally designed for the player to keep progressing with each expansion.
Humans have shown to have an understanding of certain numbers and their relative gains or losses if the numbers stay within this range. Once WoW got to millions and billions in hp points, damage, etc. it was harder for that average player to gauge where they were at in relative power level.
It’s why you have D & D and games based on the ruleset stay at the low end.
I’ve seen this thread before and I don’t get it. Why have a problem with an arbitrary number? I think that you need more things to fill out your day.
Then we will be in this paradox forever, squishy the levels every couple expansions, squishy item level and stats, go to millions of damage and squishy it again and we back to low numbers, old maps left to dust and flies, over and over again for the next 20 years. Old game, old systems I guess.
