Open World : Retail should learn from HC classic

Blizzard did try to slow down and make leveling harder back in either the pre patch for Legion or BFA, or possibly even WoD, i forget.
The backlash they got was so bad that they ended up emergency backtracking so hard they made leveling substantially quicker than it had been before. It is how we ended up where we are today. Where leveling 1-60 takes about 10 hours tops.

Broad statements about a diverse population are inherently inaccurate. However, this one “feels” like it is more accurate than less so. There are a lot of forum users (not representative of the larger player population) claim to have “the answer to stop WoW from dying!”, which in itself is a comical proclamation. Yet the urgency and fervor that these self-appointed saviors post with does suggest some ego-centric element of “I know best and the rest of you are fools if you don’t agree.”

Hard to get behind suggestions coming from such a narrow viewpoint, and more pointless to debate with individuals that can’t acknowledge rationalized flaws within their proposals, but it certainly makes for good entertainment!

The only good thing that came from Classic was that Table top RPG feeling the game use to have. Reagents for spells, ammo and arrows for weapons, etc. Other than that, it turned into raid logging real quick when people learned you could down the first raid in greens and a blue weapon.

Again , for the upteenth time, there is nothing retail should learn from HC classic of all things :man_facepalming:

Classic is a dead end game. Why do you think HC exists in the first place? That’s right. Because classic has no new content . The very second HC completely dies off (likely within the next 6 months), it’s over. No one is gonna play Cata classic and blizz ain’t gonna make classic+.

You had your fun. You had HC. You had wrath. It’s over now. Back to retail or quit. Those are your only options.

If you like HC and want retail to follow it try out wrath classic…samething as HC but just dont need to worry about dieing and loosing everything. Still everything you love but less stress

Except because there’s no way to change classes in this game, it makes raising alts hellish. Remember, you have to do this whole adventure for every character you level. Sure, it’s novel and fun once. The eighth time, I really just want to ding max level and get to the endgame.

so from the wall of text, you want retail to go backwards?

At the risk of gas lighting I stopped reading at the word meaningful. I have never seen that word used that didnt mean exhausting and or annoying

You realize WoW is not made for open world mmo single players anymore, right? Seasons, raiding, m+, world events. That is retail now and precisely why classic exists. You got some points, just sayin. WoW is a different game now

I don’t really understand your point, OP. Everything you listed as “HC Classic things that retail should learn from” were copy pasted from Vanilla. None are unique to HC Classic.

And as a player who didn’t start the game until very, very recently, I don’t think you have a good grasp of how these things have changed over the years.

And besides that, your post reads like what Ion used to tell us about why the game needed level scaling, and how new players were insisting on long, slow, hard leveling. They changed leveling from ~30 hours to 120 hours in Legion after telling us that it would feel more rewarding if it took months to do.

In what way? Who wins? Players who will have to spend a month or more leveling up? It took me 2 months to reach level 60 in classic the first time around. Lots of players quit after they couldn’t face hour-long leveling dungeons and slowly killing tens of thousands of identical trashpacks.

Is that you, Ion?

There was about 1-2 glorious weeks during the time level squish pre-patch of one of those expansions, I can’t remember which, where leveling dungeons actually felt like dungeons. Not hard, but you had to respect the mob was actually a mob and not a speed bump. Where bosses lived long enough you could actually get through your cooldowns.

It was amazing. It was fun, it was a game again.

Then of course it was gutted hard.

This a long arduous way of saying we all really need to go outside.

Correct. And blizzard should hire you.

Once RDF comes out, “Classic” dies and just becomes retail.

Well written, mature perspective. I think the devs should be doing everything they can to attract more players like you.

Here is the problem:
Leveling is just a step into the game. The game starts at level 70.
There is huge content you can solo, objectives, immersive gameplay. All it takes is for YOU to do it, not having the game to ENFORCE you to do.

Why is it so important for you that the game FORCES everyone to ABIDE by the game style YOU want instead of YOU just playing the game the way YOU WANT to play it?

Can’t say I disagree with you.

New to Wrath classic and enjoying the sense of community I’ve experienced leveling in dungeons.

Regarding the introduction of RDF with no small degree of misgivings.

lol

lmao

People literally only played Classic Era for the HC mod. Classic Era is dead.
