Open the Floodgates. ALL classes, ALL races

Hearing you and the rest of the “I don’t give a crap about logic and consistency, let me be an orc paladin” crowd make this exact same thread every other month became grating long ago. Then with the recent interviews saying we’re getting more combos in the future, they now think their dumbest dream combos are coming in the next five years when there’s still next to no chance of every single race getting access to paladins, druids, DHs, and evokers for their own reasons. At most, we’ll get shaman for every race in 10.3 or 11.0 and they’ll give paladins, warlocks, and druids to a few other races along the line.

They never said they weren’t not doing everything. They said they are, and that some will require some customization and they are looking into possible lore reasons for them.

Maybe when we get Mechagnome Druids they will actually see usage.

But their forms BETTER be Mecha.

All the ones that make sense? Yes absolutely.

All of them with no restrictions? Gross, find something else to play.

Nah they said in an interview they eventually plan total freedom. As a Druid, I just want blood elves ;_;

Would love to be a belf shaman/druid.

:smiling_imp:

The interviews I’ve seen said they want to open up “more” over time with narrative reasons to do so. I still cannot find one that says “every single one.”

World of Warcraft 's lead combat designer, Brian Holinka, confirmed in an interview with MrGM last spring that the Warcraft team wants to move towards making all classes available to all races without restriction. This change will begin with the rogues, mages, and priests in the Dragonflight pre-patch that comes out in the next few weeks. Other classes are expected to be receiving the same treatment over time. However, many of them, such as druids, would require more complex and lengthy animation modifications by the Warcraft team.

Hmm. I can’t watch the interview. Content is unavailable.

Gnome druid. As long as all the forms are also small. Seeing a tiny Moonkin run around would be adorable.

They said some races will just take much longer due to issues with lore/finding a way to make them work. Not that they wont ever do them, but just need to find more creative ways to do so

How much more lore do they need other than, “X met Y and learned?” lol seriously… do they think character’s and npc’s don’t talk to each other during maintenance?

Which I did mention… I feel like people are misunderstanding what I’m saying.

To clarify: this is going to take time and storyline. And probably some creative skinning in some cases.

A lot. Druids are a culture thing. Paladins for Void Elves is a problem. Demon Hunters is a large issue.

As long as we want to completely destroy more lore, this is an amazing idea.

I only support this if there are racial negatives that make picking certain combos poor.

Otherwise, I completely hate it when any RPG makes all races able to play all classes.

I hope they never do this. At least have some respect for the last tattered shreds of what remains of the rotting carcass of the lore. It’s already bad enough that we have massive glaring issues like ticking timebombs of DHs still allowed amongst the ranks when their source of power is gone but their canonical need to feed and satiate themselves with demonic fel magic is not. They should’ve been put back in statis the moment the Legion threat was truly elliminated since, canonically, we know it is just a matter of time until they go mad and go boom.

It’s also super bad we have Tauren mages and rogues. It’s also pretty nuts to fathom undead paladins and druids (and really most things being druids). I do think certain things make sense…say, for example, gnome paladins. Gnomes have had priests for awhile and they been hanging out with the OG paladins, humans and dwarves for even longer (not to mention shacking up with dwarves once the gnomes lost their dumb city)

They went the other way and went specific classes for races. Which doesn’t work as well for a MMO. The same way having gender segregation ruins the playability of a MMO. Too bad they saw this for night elves but not druids in general.

On a side note I was doing the guard duty event and noticed they still retain some of that WCIII gender segregation in the NPCs and all the Darnassus guards are female. I wish the rest of the game had made an effort to retain the NPC veneer of WCIII gender/racial roles and just not force them on players.

Sadly there were only 2 good ones. The night elf one was so trash it was actually a DPS loss to use.

Yep. A big appeal of WoW for me has been just how unique each race (barring Allied races) feel; they all have such rich culture and history, even a race I have no plans to ever actually play still interest me so much simply because of their lore! Coming from XIV, where every race aside from Hrothgar and Lalafells was just 'pick your flavor of human cosplayer", with their lore barely there at all or readily ignored/forgotten as needed… WoW was a breath of fresh air.

I’d rather not tear down what lore there still is left, after the mess they made with Shadowlands. I’d especially prefer consistent and solid lore, and distinct reasons for each race to be able to do x or y class, over “pick your flavor of sprinkles”. Homogenization and “let everyone be everything regardless of lore” is boring.

I am STILL angry over not getting Highmountain Warlocks. It was right there and it was a unique combo!

I do have to give them points for giving me my magical Moose-ile and my stabby cow.

Let’s all face it though, this expac is setting up all races shammies. So many angry elemental Night Elves.

Mechagnome Druid: My flight form must be helicopter blades coming out of my head like inspector gadget.

Agreed. All classes should be available to all races.

Exactly. And guess how it is you primarily interact with the world? Race has always been superfluous outside of some gimmick abilities, and there’s no class in the game that can’t be trained or taught to other races outside of ‘the chosen few’.

Evoker being hard-locked as it currently exists is a total misplay on Blizzard’s part.

No, it shouldn’t. All that does is pigeonhole races into specific playstyles which is lame and boring. If every Tauren is a Warrior, then once you’ve played one you’ve played 'em all. Kinda like how Dracthyr are now, you don’t have any reason to have more than one. This isn’t the RTS, we aren’t all the same unit from the same barracks.

HARD VETO right here. Seal of Blood showed everyone why race-based class abilities just don’t work.

The player does not have to justify their character’s existence to anyone but themselves. If you feel it’s ‘lore breaking’ or whatever, then you can feel free to ignore the character (or report them if they’re being actively disrupting, though bear in mind merely existing is not reportable). A Tauren Warlock would be no more lore-breaking than my Tauren Warrior than spends her free time using dynamite in Thunder Bluff to kill innocent critters for laughs.
