One of the things that kept people engaged in Classic was the difficulty in getting in a true raid guild and running end game raids for the best loot. I remember how few people there were actually running around decked out in purples in Classic. This made people strive for that sweet gear and to find raid groups to be like those badasses in purples. But Given the complete lack of difficulty these raids have shown to be, everyone will have these on farm as soon as they make it to 60 and everyone will be in the same purples and there wonât be anything to strive for. This will be very detrimental to Classic after a few months
I love it when the private server guys try to tell a Vanilla player like me that Vanilla was all about PvP and raiding. Maybe it was for the people who were 12 when WOW launched.
FOr those of us that came from Pen and paper D&D, throught the SSI games, to things like EQ, SWG, DAoC, CoH, LOTRO to WoW, despite having raided before WoW, we knew that WoW was a casual game that focused on a world and leveling.
The player who wanted PvP did DAoC or SWG
The players who wanted RAIDING stayed in EQ or EQ2.
We came here for the Hello Kitty MMORPG we could play while taking care of our own kids and working a full time job.
The point i was trying to make heh.
Woah, how did they manage the insane challenge of avoiding her tail and not being near the welp caves?
I loved DAoC and SWG!
They should bring em back (I know DAoC is still kicking, but is dated).
And yes, wow was considered the kiddy mmorpg at release and raiders in vanilla were very small groups of people on each server.
People forget that the heigan dance was considered the most difficult mechanic in wow history during vanilla.
The amount of similar âdancesâ weve had to do along with more fight mechanics means we have more practice not standing on the bad zones, but people are playing on computers that run faster than 5-10 fps in a 40 man raid, and we dont have to worry about 300ms ping unless your playing in a server way out of your region.
People didnt want classic back because mythic raiding wasnt hard enough.
The reality is the majority of classic players are just bad at the game. This is why they continue with 1.12 being under tuned and what not.
All the complaints about retail, any remotely decent player doesnt use the QoL changes they claim wrecked the game. LFD and LFR lol, what a joke, only the worst of WoW players queue up.
For some reason time consumption or living in the game and neglecting real life responsibilities makes classic hard. No its not hard, its just a time sink.
The streamers are already reverting to the âretailâ mindset in classic. Their followers are not far behind. Its only a matter of time before the streamers and their legion of weirdos begin the exodus from classic.
Good riddance. Let the classic players enjoy their role playing fantasy that what they are doing is hard. When in reality its just clocking hours.
Basically like waiting around for the welfare check to come. Putting in time.
But then it wouldnât be classic anymore
Edit: by the way, have you killed onyxia already?
I for one will be glad when the console gamers go back to retail where they belong.
Using the concept of âhardâ or âdifficultâ in any kind of RPG including an MMORPG is weird. It would be like:
Man, my D&D game last night was so hard! Do you have any idea how much skill it takes to roll 20 3 times in a row dude? Did you see the fat purple sword I got? All of you bow down before me as I am the D&D god!
Just wait for naxx, no life to the max.
Have you done anything that was considered hard in retail? I wouldnât bring this up except you seem intent on being dismissive of people while really youâre exceedingly ignorant of what is on offer in live. No you donât have to care or do it, but acting like everything is super simple when you donât do it seems to be what you have a problem with, and yet here you are.

Classic shouldnât be adjusted to the desires of the hardcore. You have a lot of players that havenât spent the last 15 years on private servers.
What is easy for someone that spends 12 hours per day, 7 days a week all year playing on private servers for 15 years of solid practice will still be difficult to the bulk of the players that spend maybe 2-4 hours per day playing, roughly 2-5 days per week.
You canât keep a game going by tuning everything to the needs of the hardcore players. You need to keep things challenging yet still doable for Average Joe as well or players will leave due to frustration.
From what I understand, WoW Vanilla was never a âDark Souls Hard, by the hardcore for the hardcoreâ MMORPG. Private servers tweaked numbers.
Also, hardcore players rushing through the game to beat every raid in existence in the first two weeks changes nothing for about 99% of the playerbase. Good for them if thatâs how they want to play.
As long as Blizzard doesnât cater to the âBUT WE HAVE NOTHING TO DO!â crowd and releases the phases at a good rate (maybe 4-6 months before Phase 2), the world will be fine.
However, if they go all Cataclysm and only listen to the 1%, Classic WILL have some issues if they go with the minority.
Bring a game back that has existed for 15 years with a handful of people literally mastering the existing content and what would you expect, that they forgot how to do a boss theyâve done hundreds of times?
You are fogetting the countless threads and posts on this forum about how hard classic was and how you actually had to âworkâ for your gear.
Nope, its clocking hours, standing still for the most part and clicking 1 key binding every few seconds.
Why are you comparing an imaginary game like dnd to a video game. You could play dnd on paper if you wanted to.
These were both true in Vanilla: easy raid, difficult guild politics. The only thing thatâs different now is the knowledge that you donât need to suck up to some 15yr old jackass to get into a âtrueâ raid guild to access such things and people are lot more comfortable forming their own groups and running things on their own.
Also we now know better than we did then that most of those purples were for show and not actually success. A full 8/8 Tier 1 Druid was nothing special and actually weaker than someone more choosey about their healing gear, and the Feral wouldnât want any of it at all. Even classes like Mages arenât particularly enthusiastic about their set thanks to substantial pieces of +Frost Spell Power gear in the 5mans.
Why are you all talking about the fight being undertuned when the way bigger issue is the hitbox bug letting meele stand with the ranged.
But one of the points is that endgame is so insanely easy, it honestly doesnât matter what gear you are in. Guilds have already proven this. There is no incentive in going for those BiS builds since you can clear raids with lvl 40 quest greens.
Iâm mainly playing for PvP and that will still be fun and gear will actually matter, but that wonât be enough to keep most, and even me, engaged for a long period of time
Yelp, so true
Why arenât you posting on your classic avatar that has already downed raid bosses, stud?
