I hope the next time Blizzard adds something to the game it’s as they are taking away something that you put time and effort into achieving.
Innovation and change can be good! Adding mount equipment slots that reduce dazing and add water-walking to other mounts is a great addition and something I look forward to using! Removing the water strider’s INNATE WATER WALKING ABILITY is not.
Ok let’s simplify the conversation. If you pick the water walking equipment does your water strider function any different then it does right now?
That’s not simplifying it.
If I want to give my ground mounts the no daze equipment because water walking breaks on hit anyway, then yes. Suddenly that water strider is useless.

Here you go: just exempt the Waterstrider from the new equipment like they did with the Sky Golem.

But why should we have to pick water walking equipment to use a water strider, a mount whose sole saving grace is its passive water walking ability? It literally defeats the purpose of having one. No one likes it for aesthetic reasons, it’s a disgusting looking bug.
Yes. How are you not understanding that? If the strider exists as it already does, then I have regular ground mounts with no daze and a strider for crossing water.
See how that option gives me more choice than putting water walking on a strider that now functions as a regular mount?

P,S, My water strider isn’t going to have changed at 8.2. It will still water walk just fine.

Actually - I’ve explained it numerous times. Currently… you can use stonehide leather barding (gives immunity to stun/daze)… currently your azure/crimson water strider walks on water… you can use both - ergo - you have two active “abilities”…
After the change - azure/crimson water strider can not walk on water without having the mount equipment in the slot… After the change stonehide leather barding will be mount equipment (it becomes a blacksmith made item)… Ergo only having 1 ability…

Only 1 piece of mount equipment can be active at one time. Therefore - in ordered to have stun/daze immunity you would need to have 1 piece of equipment on the mount… to have water walking enabled you would need to have another piece of mount equipment…
Currently - they work like gems do… socket one piece of gear into the mount and it overwrites the old one. If you need to use the option that the first piece of gear gave you, you would need to buy another to replace the 1st that was in the socket/slot…
Ergo… it is a nerf. They’re taking abilities/options and giving us something of lesser quality. Hence - not an upgrade. Plus, if you already had the mount - you’ll essentially be paying gold over and over for an ability you already had. Every time you need to switch from one mount (having stun/daze immunity) back to water walking - you need to shell out more gold.
Again - logically and objectively speaking - a nerf. Not an upgrade.
I’m not against having mount equipment slots; I’m against their methods of implementation (as is the large majority of players who are against the changes). They shouldn’t have to change the functionality of the water walking mount in ordered to implement this system - especially considering they’re not going to touch the flying golem’s ability to allow players to pick herbs without being dismounted. Nor should we have to continually pay for the option of water walking every time we need to switch things out for the sake of “convenience”.
is the water walking item locked behind a rep grind still?
Yes - it’s still locked behind anglers rep and you’ll need to unlock it on a level 100+ character to be able to buy it and mail it to your other characters (it will be BoA). Characters also need to be at least level 20 to use it once you’ve unlocked it.
