You said “it doesn’t matter to me” when I said I own one. I said I don’t care that it does matter to you especially when I was not even responding to you on it.
But you don’t pay for it. If you use the free item and leave it, then it stays the exact same. IF (and that is IF) you decide to use the new feature in the future for a different effect then you have to pay for it in the future. So you are complaining about something new that will give you a choice that you don’t have to even use.

Again you are not loosing your mount. Also maybe you need to get over yourself since you interjected yourself into a response that was not directed at you and now feel the need to be insulting regarding it. Also enjoy your exact same water stride with the water walking equipment.
They said when you log in you get it. Why would you not get it on each character the first time they log in? That is how they tend to do these thing.

The problem was everybody and their brother who didn’t have the strider moaned and complained that they had to go back to obsolete content and grind out rep or they would be at a disadvantage. On top if that everyone who had the strider moaned and complained they had to use the ugly mount they didn’t like or they would be at a disadvantage.
So Blizz said, ok, now everyone can water walk on any mount, and hey here’s a couple other things that you can do as well.
Now everyone and their brother is moaning and complaining that they can’t game this new system and and basically have two of the perks available at the same time without spending the money to swap them out.
Blizz gave everyone what they wanted plus some and now they are throwing tantrums because they can’t have it all at once.

Saying “I like the change” is dictating what happens to your mount? Use the water walking equipment and it is the exact same.

it’s not new.
we’ve had water walking mounts for a long time.
it’s not giving me a choice, it’s REMOVING choice.
i chose to get a water strider so i could walk on water.
if i don’t want to walk on water, i’ve got hundreds of other mounts to choose from.
…now if i want passive water walking, all my mounts are going to be impacted by it… instead of just the one which was intended for that specific purpose.

If this is true, it’s a complete waste of time. Why would they do this instead of just leaving the striders untouched and unable to equip things like the sky golem? Ridiculous.

How are you loosing anything over this? Right now none of your mounts have the features they are adding. So if you pick water walking you are at the exact same point as right now.
On the other hand if you are a DK, shaman, or a hunter with a water strider pet, maybe you don’t care about water walking. Instead maybe you want daze immunity. This is a change offering MORE choices or if you want to you can leave it the EXACT SAME as it is now.

Guess what? You’re never going to convince anyone that giving up their mount because Blizzard doesn’t like them is what the cool kids are doing.
Because then we are in the exact same situation we are now where you will pick a different ability and then switch to the water strider for specific zones.
So what mount are you giving up? Use the water walking equipment and it is the exact same as it is now.
Even if I did my opinion would not change. I’ve got several friends who own one and they are not whining or bellyaching about it. Most also share my thoughts on the matter. This is just bellyaching for the sake of bellyaching. Perhaps I will have one of them post in the future since you seem to think that because I didn’t bother with Anglers, my opinion is not valid.
Here’s a hint. It’s just as valid as yours.
