Old raids won't be fixed

The fact that players get weaker as they level is beyond laughable. Who thought this was a good idea?

Yeah, because for all of gaming history leveling up and ‘being stronger’ were synonymous.

:pancakes:

I really don’t see how you don’t get why we should be able to solo content 10-15 levels below us.

If the GEAR from those raids still affected player power, you would have a point. But they don’t. Blizz even went so far to outright disable set bonuses and such because they know people will figure out a way to use specific combinations of old bonuses in current content – they removed them, with good reason.

So the gear is literally irrelevant for player power. It’s just transmog and mounts (with extremely low drop chances) Now, if there’s “special” transmog that blizz wants to limit, then the solution is just to remove them from the game, which they also already done for some items.

Old raids are basically just a way of sight seeing now because they’re utterly irrelevant to player power and as such should be facerolled by max level players.

Your argument suggests that just because we out-level something we shouldn’t be able to utterly destroy it in the future. Which doesn’t make any sense at all. Should I still need 3 fellow players to fight Hogger?

Again just because something was one way before does not mean it cannot evolve and grow to become better. Ion and the Dev team are taking a revolutionary approach to changing how this works by making it so that levels no longer are power, but rather the gear. This change will allow players to do old content with ease, how is this an issue?

YES! Exactly this. Player level does not equate to power, the gear does. This a much smarter system, in my opinion.

“Hey guys! You know how leveling up makes people stronger? Why don’t we try making them weaker instead?”

Genius…

In all honesty, every time I read a statement like this from Ion, I don’t get the impression that it’s malicious or lying. It just always comes of as trying really, really hard to come up with a justification to cover over the fact that, quite possibly, they don’t have the time, resources, or ability to fix a problem.

I’m not a developer, so I have zero idea of what it would take to fix a program problem (I’ve seen enough unintended side effects from fixes to know that it isn’t always easy), and it’s not outside of the realm of reason that there is a design philosophy behind it either (for better or worse). The things is, Ion might be technically right that we will be able to clear older content with higher gear, but I always think honesty goes a long way and they should just come out say if there is some other issue.

insert lawyer joke here

Folks complained when levels were too high in the game, when the level squish happen so did the power and this meant that levels became irrelevant as power became the focus and power is NOT tied to levels, it’s tied to gear. This is what Ion and the Dev team are trying to explain.

Isn’t this backwards from how an MMO should be?

Replace MMO with every game in history that involves leveling.

Ion and the Dev team are not taking the traditional route of an MMO, the reason why WoW is so successful is because it takes innovate steps to change the market and this is one of them!

The weirdness of how stats change as we level seems to be completely a byproduct of level scaling. I feel it’s more unintentional weirdness in trying to implement a system where scaling can occur then it is an intentional system.

We have plenty of people stating that even with high level gear, it’s STILL not solo-able… so, what’s your point? Do you mean we need Mythic Nathria gear to do Mythic Antorus? How does that make sense? Shouldn’t the old raid then give relevant gear? Again, if that was the case, I’d be all for this. It would also open up many more raid options.

The reason why WoW was successful is due to the fact that it use to allow different playstyles to flourish. SL isn’t accomplishing that at the moment.

WoW has a very rich lore and story, these old raids contain key figures to the story and as such these are not soloable bosses. This requires players to group up, and take on the challenge ahead of them.

This is simply not true, in Shadowlands the legacy raid change is changing the play style dramatically! Folks need to team up to defeat the old world gods with the new found loot in the Shadowlands, this makes for a much more cooperative and team building experience compared to previous iterations of legacy content!

Typical RPGs: “I leveled up and got stronger!”

WoW leveling: “Super Mario gets harder as you reach higher levels, so of course you feel weaker as you level!”

Is there any valid reason in an RPG that getting weaker as you level up should even be a thing? This isn’t a sidescroller, and the scaling used in this game has had a very large ripple effect across the board after being combined with the squish.

Way to dodge the question. So, now it’s about the lore, and not the gear? I thought you JUST said earlier that player power is not equal to levels, but gear. So the gear IS much, much more powerful than what drops in the old raids. So by your own logic, 1 player in 171 gear should be strong enough to obliterate a raid that drops level 100 gear. I mean, 71 gear levels above is pretty amazingly huge.

Lorewise: we have already defeated these figures, repeatedly, we are the champions of azeroth, brimming with the power of Azeroth’s heart, empowered by our class orders, experienced with using the most legendary weapons ever crafted.

And now, we are maw-walkers with seemingly unmatched power. We faced off with the Jailer’s forces (who even Ion says makes the legion look like nothing) and survived. We now have the powers of death supporting us too. So… even lorewise I should be able to squish Goroth with my pinky toe.

Next point?
