Old Man Yelling at Clouds

Don’t worry, be happy

Problem is, people keep working towards QoL and efficiency upgrades, while not planning for the people. If they want a purge just say it. Almost 9 billion people is a lot.

Billy bob and his 12 kids, who each have 12 kids are where we’re heading.
Sad thing is I’ve heard this over discord, Dad/Mom gaming while five kids cry in the background only for them to scream, “Shut up! I’m Raidin’!”

As AI inevitably improves, you’ll have to simply assume that 95% of what you read online isn’t authentic, much like you can or eventually will be able to make those assumptions about music, online stills, etc.

At that point, excellent writing will decrease in value (or continue to as it has been), just as it does for every other artistic medium. Or people will cope by no longer thinking that authenticity is an indicator of quality.

In the long term, this is the backside decline on the chart of human creativity. Anyway, enough optimism.

What do you mean going to. Already does.

Eventually the keyboard will just look like a McDonalds cash register with just little pictures to choose from

There are definitely huge concerns. Working in the marketing world, we’re already seeing people shifting more and more towards valuing transparency and “people/influencers” they feel they can actually get to know, whereas most written correspondence is viewed with heightened skepticism.

Ironically, I’ve even had a few of my own work samples accused of being AI generated, because I’m generally pretty articulate, which is seen as a “red-flag” for a lot of AI detectors. Which is pretty sad, as it implies that most people are illiterate, but whatevs.

Ultimately, AI is here to stay, so it’s best to treat is as another tool in your arsenal. I mean, Photoshop has been using AI for years, and talented artists are still able to prove themselves and produce higher quality work than someone who doesn’t know what they’re doing. But AI generators are certainly putting out work at an insane speed.

Actually, there is a fairly well known gaming site that was hiring an “Editor” position that required using AI tools to produce literally 50,000+ articles PER WEEK!!! Because they’re not concerned about quality, they just want to capitalize on their SEO to drive traffic to deliver ads.

So… yeah, the world is already changing. Pretty scary stuff, but it is what it is. There’s too much money to be had, so companies will only continue to invest in these technologies.

There’s a tweet I’d read a couple of months ago that’s really stuck with me, something to the effect of:

“I wanted AI to take over menial tasks so I could focus on my art, but instead it’s taking over art so I’m expected to do even more menial tasks.”

Something like that.

It’s something terribly tragic about technology; it rarely, if ever, improves our lives in any way. Instead, it simply increases our efficiency, therefor we are expected to do even more to maintain the same standard of living.

It’s no wonder people are more unhappy than any other time in recorded history. Technology has made our lives so incredibly stressful, that it’s taking up increasing mental capacity, and if you can’t keep up, you’re just immediately fired and expected to just roll over and die.

some question if we are ourselves ai creations

Not worried because AI can actually be very inspiring, imo. I feel like the only people that would be threatened by it are those that are insecure in their own abilities, especially the ability to adapt.

Idiocracy man idiocracy

If you like to read, check out the book, Dies the Fire; exactly what you are describing.

This is something I hate more than a lot of things.
I didn’t invest my time learning grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, and the many other things to decent writing related only to lean on a damned machine as a crutch, and the insinuation itself is grounds for me to instantly disregard everything else the accuser has to say.

Its entertaining on some of the more remote camps I’ve supported for scouting.

Signal can be weak and drops.

No bars, omfg the world has ended. For people less than 50+ years old anyway. I lived in the stone ages before the internet. You remember things, or write things down in a book. Or bring a book with guides lol.

Having notes in the cloud is great. Untill you can’t reach the cloud lol.

My modern conveniences for that stuff? A kindle. tons of books and the newer ones have some damned good battery life.

OR you know actually enjoy the nature we are in. Why I have a real camera too. Its not like I need to post on social media right away. I go home, and do post editing on a computer.

MY son needed a watch for cross country. I gave him my apple watch. As I also have a nice old one school one.

I favored that more anyway. I go old school. you can get your steps in…without a step counter. Just go walk the 2 miles, its that easy.

Its funny as hell on week long camps when the smart watchers lose power. its been now 3 days of choosing phone or watch for battery chargers. Phone won. Watch…lost.

Smart watches with no power…no worky. My “old man” watch still ticking and the hands moving. I “recharge” my watch every 4 or so years. when the battery runs out and I get it changed lol.

It’s not only this, but ChatGPT has a very certain, very specific style. What I worry is that as more students cheat by having ChatGPT write their papers for them, teachers will learn to unconsciously look for that, well, branding, the same way humans are easily herded into chain restaurants or into paying more for the brand-name product than its generic equivalent that is often made in the same factory, of the exact same ingredients.

You really think domestic problems are something new and they are based on technology?

Has anyone who thinks AI can write a good novel actually read a novel?

Professional chatGPT papers are really, really, REALLY easy to spot. And no, I’m not telling you how so you can avoid the eye of your masters instructor.

Why are you worried about it. A true author or artist could see it as an inspiration tool, an author or artist will still have those who buy their work.

This thread’s title reminds me of this:

good. you should be.

im worried about AI images. I feel in 10 years or less, we will acknowledge that there may only have been a short period of time where, generally, we could trust photos to relay more or less some form of reality.

Don’t forget about AI videos. Those are coming along, too.
