I like what they did, but I keep thinking they might have missed an opportunity here.
Like imagine if the hero tree would have allowed totally new roles.
Im thinking shaman enh, where 1 tree would enhance your dps, but the other tree would give all tools for tanking.
You could have the same idea for outlaw rogue, demo lock, arms warrior, surv hunter.
Could have been an opportunity to test also support specs. Give some dps spec the choice between enhancing their dps or becoming more support oriented.
You see the idea
It would be cool, but lets be honest, Blizzard can barely balance the stuff we have, having special talents that rearrange a spec into another role would basically be the final nail in the coffin of a “decent”(using the term liberally) balance.

They tried something like that with Gladiator stance in WoD, and it was a meme. But it also created problems with people queueing up as tank in Gladiator stance, and getting pummeled.
So 1 role per spec.

Unless I’m mistaken, Gladiator was also impossible for them to tune. To make it viable, it had to do competitive DPS…but when you threw that into PVP it was a DPS with tank survivability which caused a lot of problems.
Yeah. It’s why each spec will stay 1 role.

Rogue hero talent example Fatebound = tiny gold coins drop out periodically from your pockets.
That does NOT feel heroic to me.

I’m not sure I’m seeing the “feature” in this “feature” is it not just your talent tree with a shrub next to it instead of growing the tree more? Hey cool, we’re getting some new talents, but that’s really all it is.
The one thing I notice is missing from WoW is the excitement over opening up your last spell (usually a big boomer of a spell)
For me, without that big level cap unlock you’re just driving a car and shifting from 3rd gear to 4th gear. not a whole lot happening there, you’re just in a position to go faster down the road you’ve been traveling already.
Oh I totally agree and I’ve done multiple comments and feedback about how this could work since the announcement. I’m sorry, but when members of the community “cringe” at choices and decisions such as forcing a melee character to be a damage turret, it might be time to re-evaluate.
Shaman were tanks at one point. Yes, not necessarily the best, but we could do the job. All they needed was 2 little changes and they could have been amazing. Hero talents could have paved the way for that, but nope. We got 1 useful spec and that’s even questionable.

How to make players not have a choice between convenience , playstyle and meta. Just give them all the talents that’s what I see it as , just like the artifact weapon
In any case most players if not all just copy paste , they don’t want to learn the in and outs for themselves when some else has already crunched in the time to do that
At the end of the day player would look at it one last time before they the final point in and then its ignored for the rest of the patch
