Why did Blizzard try so hard to nuke L’ura memory game addons when I can output the symbols into raid chat with simple macros?
It seems like Blizzard’s goal is to provide you with needed info, but make it so it appears in a location that is as inconvenient as possible to make it not useful.
Think about it
Because macros aren’t automated.
The addons aren’t automated either.
Yes they were.
The one addon that was automated got nuked immediately. Current addons can’t send chat messages during combat to share the symbols. Somebody still has to click the buttons in the order shown by the boss.
what?

Clicking a button that shows a symbol isn’t automation. I do the same thing with /raid macros, but it’s allowed.
I’m pretty sure that’s was Blizzard’s goal, doing it the way you are.
If it’s the same then there shouldnt be a problem right? ![]()
Sort of, but it’s mainly an issue of “we can’t have nice things just because.” If you click your macros too fast, you actually hit a raid chat limit. You have to stagger them perfectly or you get hit with a chat spam error.
They probably rather you use the tools ingame or voice chat for that rather than seeing a menu popup from addon which does a bit more as like you say as it does seem to handle a bit more some overload.
As always, nuking addons was a knee-jerk reaction while ignoring the actual problem.
5 macros that can be clicked to /s {triangle} etc is no “better”. It’s a hassle to set up and create a dedicated buttonbar for a single boss instead of simply installing an addon that has precisely the same thing except in a bundled package.
It’s fabulously stupid of blizz to think that pugs would not immediately resort to this kind of thing when faced with such a bad mechanic. Not that anybody wants to use the built-in voicechat in the first place, but callouts of the sequence is a major hassle. That’s putting a hefty burden on a single person to get it right, and keep it right while doing their own separate job, while repeating the callout several times, WHILE WATCHING TO MAKE SURE THE SYMBOLS HAVE LINED UP CORRECTLY.
No, obviously the better solution by far is to have an assigned person simply click 5 macros. I don’t even pug L’ura and this is an egregiously anti-pug design that never should have gone live this way. The good version of this, which accomplishes the same test without relying on a single callout coordinator, is to simply have the 3-5 symbols spinning around the boss as the laser charges up. Any starting point, as long as they’re in the right order, you have 4 seconds, go.
Because they don’t want a situation where a boss’s strategy revolves around everyone in the raid downloading an addon.
I am a casual mythic raider and for the first time ever I am running the game with zero addons because raiding no longer requires any. Before weakauras was a pretty hard requirement.
But it’s still “everyone go download an addon” but also “jeff is our 21st raider who is gonna sit outside the raid watch a stream and his job is just to hit the buttons in the right order so the addon works” because the top CE guilds can just afford to do that and the rest of us can kick dirt or whatever, but hey at least we’re all on the same level now right?
There is literally nothing Blizzard can do to prevent the 21st man type deal.
What was more problematic was the top teams having their own professional coders making them custom weakauras to solve fights for them.
I don’t know if you ever did mythic Fractillus back in Manaforge Omega, but the strategy for him was ‘go download the Liquid raid tool and do what it tells you’. That’s literally what every guide for him said.
And them some of them saying the content was too easy afterwards with a feeling left of “that’s it?” ![]()
As far as I know they only said that after mythic Crown of the Cosmos, not L’ura.
They also said that of mythic Gallywix.
Anyone who used an addon during the race should be permanently banned.
Even after Blizz panic-buffs the boss into absurdity it still dies the first week it’s available. The addon purge has done nothing but remove player customization because the top are always going to have a way to offload the cognitive task of “what to do” onto something or someone else. Hell people are STILL being told to download addons (looking at you northernsky) as they progress into mythic so, what changed?
