No, not really.
Because it’s eliminated one of the most toxic forms of player behaviour in both of those games. Both Guild Wars 2 and FFXIV have very welcoming, friendly communities, even in the more difficult content modes like Fractals (the GW2 version of Mythic+) and Raids, and it’s the same for FFXIV as well, very welcoming and friendly, it’s rare that you run into someone who will be toxic with other players in the group and throw them under a bus.
You’re quite literally proving my point with your post here, because look at what you’re saying. That type of attitude is the very problem with WoW, especially when you consider that what someone considers to be ‘garbage’ is subjective. Those players could very well be up to par for the content they’re running, but because their not as good as Joe Elitist, they get treated like crap by him and anyone who agrees with him. Hell, they may not have even had a problem with DPS and instead they accidently flubbed a mechanic. But whoops, here comes the toxic spray, better get out of the splash zone.
This is especially problematic for new players who join because they’re not going to be as good as the elitist who’s been on board and perfecting their class for months, if not years. They might not know about the ‘mandatory’ addons and how to use them. They are the types of players who could definitely use a helping hand from someone friendly. Now, if they’re playing FFXIV or GW2, they’re going to get that friendly player, and they’ll feel welcomed and accepted despite their fresh status. But in WoW, they’d get players like you, and let me tell you from experience. Getting abused in any environment, especially when you’ve just jumped into it, is one very quick way to make sure those people leave the environment and go elsewhere.
