Remember that time we put CD Project Red on the pedestal? I remember.
leave and join a ‘blivate blerver’ because all that noise.
hey! its one of my ideas to fix this mess, its on me blizz if true. And i’m pretty sure the ‘Swiss based forum for collecting four leaf clovers’ stories are usually 50/50 on terms of truth.
Man this whole thing is a ‘what will blizzard up this week?’ I cant even make a bingo card since some of this is out of left field. Still entertaining.
I guess that’s sort of my meaning, too. Even companies with (as far as I know) generally positive reputations still have at least some amount of ill will toward them. In addition to Square Enix, Bethesda gets it from Fallout 76 and the 23867337563579 rereleases of Skyrim and Valve have only made like, two games in the last decade, only one of which was any good.
I’m probably ill-informed on this and the majority of people don’t care what companies do, but it just kind of feels like paying $60 to a corporation you hate for a game that isn’t even, like, fun, is becoming the norm, and that’s not exactly tenable.
One only needs to look at EA and The Sims 4 to see that people are willing to spend $60/40/20/5 on DLC trying to Band-Aid fix a game despite the DLC largely ignoring the fundamental problems with the games anyway.
But yeah, seems like pretty much every video game company nowadays has at least some skeletons in the closet.
“Pride and Accomplishment.” Enough said.
Not sure why any person here is putting any thought into believing that ‘leak’ Which is just funny more so than anything else. The leak is from some rando on 4chan. It’s a thinly veiled hate fic to stir up drama and nothing more.
In fact, things that are mentioned are outright contradicted by Blizzard employees online. Such as the Danuser/Golden thing.
ANyway, Phil Spencer of XBOX said that Xbox is reevaluating their relationship w/ Activision blizzard so that Makes Playstation and Xbox who isn’t happy with the ongoings. If anything gets some heads to roll it’ll be that.
I’ll just step in to say giving something credence because it SEEMS plausible, I.E. discussing blatantly false information because it lines up with pre-existing biases is like
That’s not how things being true work
I don’t think anyone really thinks anything coming out of that cesspool is legit, but things are so craptacular at blizzard that a lot of the “leak” is realistically possible at this point.
The defensiveness towards the leak suggests to me it resonates with more people than they’d like to believe.
So much of that is obviously fake. The stuff about developers sounds way too similar to the other fake posts we see about developers, and some of the claims are just common player misconceptions.
Horde isn’t more popular because of racials and hasn’t been for a long time. Straight up, Alliance racials are often better now. It’s more popular because it’s been more popular - it’s easier to find recruits for raiding or pugs for M+. It comes down to networking.
I’d also point out that they showed their ignorance by acting like the Horde is more popular universally, when this isn’t the case — the Alliance are the networking faction in Oceanic realms.
I feel like anyone even half paying attention should know this stuff. Even Ion has mentioned it in passing on multiple occasions in interviews.
Anyway, there’s other stuff in there that’s also nonsense, but that was the one where I rolled my eyes and decided it wasn’t worth finishing.
I can appreciate the sentiment of some claims, but this “leak” honestly reads the same way the other fake leaks have read in the past. Like I’m more inclined to believe it’s the same poster than from a dev.
Also why would a secret disgruntled dev post on a random forum instead of going to a journalist with their story for an extra layer of anonymity and a better chance of their story reaching the masses. Not that it’s never happened before, but this reminds me of the “insider” leaks when the Sonic Boom TV show was in development that claimed Shadow was going to wear a Hawaiian shirt and Silver the Hedgehog was going to make an appearance.
It actually started earlier than that, when they tried to monetize mods (The precursor to the Creation Club which came later).
But speaking as an old Bethesda fan myself, I think the bulk of their ire is from the fact the last actual Roleplaying Game Bethesda released was 10 years ago now. (Yeah, Fallout 4 is a Looter-Shooter. There’s no role to play in that game, sadly)
I mean, Todd got $20 out of me for the Anniversary Edition (I grow tired of constantly having to update mod lists and make sure everything plays nice. Throwing in a bunch of mods that already work together hassle free while being new content for me personally is actually a pleasent experience), but even while Skyrim remains a very solid, very replayable entry of the franchise (And as a longbeard myself, I’ll argue with the other longbeards in regards to Skyrim’s quality compared to previous entries. Case in point, Skyrim is actually a Harder experience than Morrowind, though still easier than Oblivion)…it’s been ten years. Elder Scrolls VI is three years late, in my opinion.
I think people should always be wary of anonymous things that feel true. Like yeah, as a total pessimist who complains about the game constantly, a lot of that leak lines up with my opinion of Blizzard’s work environment. But even something like that aside about the Danuser/Golden feud just reeks of external fanfiction that someone put together by connecting the dots that we already know about.
Say what you want about Danuser, and I certainly will because that man couldn’t write himself out of a run-on sentence if his life depended on it. But I find it very hard to believe that he would somehow have the power to unilaterally delay a tie-in novel release solely because he’s throwing a months-long tantrum, yet couldn’t just replace Golden if he’s truly so upset with her. It seems like a story that was written in reverse: we all have been dreading the Sylvanas redemption arc, Danuser is the Sylvanas guy, therefore he is 100% responsible for it, which means we need a good guy in the room who is dramatically speaking The Truth to his face. Just so happens that Golden makes a convenient proxy for those feelings of frustration.
It’s the “Blizzard is so desperate for subs that we’re getting a Tinkerer class next expansion!” type of bait for people who are upset with the story.
I guess I’m just going by a general pattern.
Rumor: “Blizzard is really bad.”
Audience: “Pfffffft, I know it’s bad but it can’t be that bad.”
Reality: is actually that bad and worse
Hey now, Fallout 4 is an RPG.
…if you have enough mods installed.
I got a play through going right now where I’m playing a Super Mutant mercenary whose gotten involved as a Railroad tourist as a reliable/stable source of income and I’m having a blast with it. Doesn’t even care about Synths or the Institute at all, he’s just in it for the money and the housing.
And there’s the rub.
I’m not going to derail yet another thread with a long winded rant about how utterly disappointing Fallout 4 was in relation to how excellent they did with Fallout 3, but all I will point out is if you opt out of Settlement Building (and by extension those towns that you can acquire as part of your settlement “network”), Fallout 4 contains 3 Settlements. 5 with all the DLC. 8 total if you include the three main story factions.
Compare that with Fallout 3’s 18 Settlements.
Glad you’re talking about settlements, General. Turns out another one needs help.
You have my permission to derail this thread.
basically yeah.
The only way I could rationalize a reason is due to how gaming journalism is pretty terrible and often won’t indulge in such stories unless it proves profitable. Its known many stories can be told but some won’t ever see the light of day by publishings if it does no good for them.
And the normal journalism typically don’t care for gaming drama due to how “niche” the audience that’d care.
