Aside from all the people who play classic??? But I get what your trying to say. And mostly agree.
[insert, its always been this way, arbitrary post] lol but all jks aside
I agree OP.
But something stood out when I saw Ion speak earlier this year I think and it is that he said it is them designing stuff to how they were taught by their predecessors. So DF is supposed to be some shift away from the norms.
Thing is… for the time WoW came out… it was a pretty solid mmorpg and when you saw the people who created it, you could see their passion for it.
I think the team now has a passion for what they do but this game has become so twisted and disjointed that they have fallen into a malaise of sorts… a pattern if you will… just wanting to add ‘‘busy work’’ and cutting corners to deliver at least a basic version of it. So that if they were to rejig everything, it’d probably break the game entirely, and take way too much time and money.
Plainly said, we are stuck with a team that has constraints and little idea of how to do a proper open world experience… and a game that is now just a theme park to keep you on the hamster wheel.
Either temper the expectations or best to just find something else better you enjoy
Exactly this. That’s why I am now a retail tourist.
“And pity the rest”…
Did you just add this because you thought it sounded cool?
What is included in “the rest”? People who actually find it fun and don’t think of it as a job? People who can play in moderation and not get burned out? There are a lot of people not included in your other two categories and they certainly don’t need your pity.
I’m just going to assume that you don’t really pity people who can play a game in moderation and actually enjoy it as a hobby and you were just talking out of your butt bc you thought it sounded cool.
How do you, personally, define “fun” ?
Sure it is.
WoW and MMO’s in general follow a relatively similar design philosphy. A lot of us like having things to ‘work’ on during our leisure time. If you’ve hit your limit of time spent/fun gained-then yes. Take a good long break. I take a break after hitting goals every season and have a good time when I get back.
Good luck friend.
yup, that’s why this game is at it’s lowest MAUs in a while. Many folks have come to this realization, glad you have too
They did start using time played metric for game health so yeah
I understand this feeling. I too am a little burnt on the profession quests. With that said I have just about everything maxed in the trees so it is nice being able to take a break from them. Hopefully we don’t get too many talents added that would cause the grind to have to restart.
I’m taking a break until 10.1.5 comes out. I Just cancelled my subscription, but I’ll be back. I might actually go to the gym. I have a gym membership that is gathering dust.
The literal only thing going on in Classic right now is a community-made Hardcore challenge though. Wrath has been absolutely devoid of interesting content for a long, long time.
Are you serious with this comment? Vanilla Classic was a huge success, and they’re planning on a making more seasons of mastery for Classic. I swear, the people on these forums are some of the most misinformed people on the internet. You guys truly live in an echo chamber here. I feel kind of bad for you.
WoW is just grinds over and over, every patch and Tuesdays it resets for you to start grinding … now some people like grinds, people that play wow get achives and gear that gives them a sense of virtual power to brag
Yea. I read the forums bc a lot of the people that post are really pitiful. Like OP basically saying they pity people who don’t think of WoW as a job. That’s honestly one of the most pathetic things I’ve ever read on here, “and pity the rest”. xD
How sad is your life to be unable to comprehend that people might play a video bc they actually enjoy it. Really sad I’m guessing.
New to MMOs?
Battle for Azeroth, was, for me, peak WOW.
Yes. Timegating and other stuff was horrible. But i was surrounded by amazing people, i raided, i RPed, i did pvp, i did m+…
(And we got Zandalar, a place i wanted to see since, well, Burning Crusade!)
MMOS are Social games. If you play only for the loot threadmill you will get bored. But if you ignore it… you will not.
Shadowlands was the worst expansion of all times, because all my friends stopped playing, and because the content was boring, repetitive and tedious. But then, i made a lot of new friends during S4, fun times.
Could care less about the wow part of the post but Jimmie Vaughan, Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, and BB King!
If you play the end game then you’re purpose is usually bis or gear oriented, which means not getting drops makes the game unfun, because the gear is the point.
If you play the game with friends because you like to have fun with your friends, gear is just icing on the cake.
I’m not going to tell you how to play but I’ve done it both ways and I know which one I enjoy and which one feels like work to me.
The problem with these grinds is, you don’t make any interesting stories along the way. I didn’t mind grinding stuff in WoW in the past, because a lot of times you would get a cool item, or a cool mount, or title, or make some new friends along the way. Nowadays, all the achievements, mounts and items either feel drowned out in the sea of stuff we already have, or the new rewards just feel very generic, and the community is overly competitive now which makes it difficult to connect with people.
A lot of the content, outside raiding, just feels soulless too. Same dungeons, bgs and arenas over and over again. I had the pleasure of playing Albion Online this year, and that game is an open WPVP game, and I made more stories in that game just playing a few months than I did in WoW since the end of WoD.
WoW is just a boring skinner box now, that maybe offers brief stints of fun, but the game today is just a chore to play. All the content feels kind of forced, and this is by design, because the developers don’t know how to make a fun game anymore, so they have to resort to skinner box tactics to keep people engaged.
The problem, today, is most WoW players are just here for the loot treadmill. The game heavily pushes this design in the faces of everyone that plays. The extreme push to make the game more hardcore and more competitive has had rippling effects through the community. I don’t play WoW anymore to connect with people, because it is almost impossible to do so.
