In this thread? Perhaps not. But this thread is referencing a problem that has consisted long before today. And those posts always get drawn out into the hundreds of response range where multiple echo the same sentiment.
Now I’m all for an open world progression. Do not get me wrong. But I also think that difficulty should determine ilvl.
Open world can be on par with Heroic Dungeons and/or Mythic 0s, but then that means they need to start low and allow people to work their way up. Giving people normal/heroic raid gear out of the gate and having them spend a couple weeks to upgrade it to Mythic raiding is a bad design…IMO
That isn’t even in the same ballpark as the topic of this thread.
Things to work on in a monthly subbed game, and having a way to progress your character(s) outside of instanced content has never equated to expecting top end gear waiting in our mailboxes.
All of the parrots who regurgitate this sentiment are disingenuous at best.

people have been perpetually leaving but the game keeps going.
Also to note it’s literally the end of 9.2, people completed, geared, and progressed as much as they were going to weeks or months ago, so there’s nothing left for them to do (that they want to do) until the next content dump (season 4 raids, M+, and arenas, etc which is months away) or next expansion.
Even myself, I slowed down and stopped playing wow most days because I already progressed as far as I wanted to, finished 9.2 months ago, cleared 11/11H, am fully geared on my main and alts, 3k+ rated in M+ dungeons, etc. So you can’t really expect people to stick around once they’ve accomplished what they had set out to accomplish each patch or expansion, and log in for just the sake of logging in and continue paying a sub to just stand around. Drop offs between patch cycles or expansions is the bread and butter of MMOs or how it always worked in WoW for over a decade.
Literally the one and only thing that’s keeping me personally logging into wow lately, is trying to get my warlock’s damn bis dungeon offhand. Can’t tell you how many times I’ve spammed ToP the past month… but here’s just this past week’s worth: https://i.imgur.com/cwcRFzK.png
And once and if I get it, I’ll probably be gone until the new content starts for 9.2.5 (a couple months from now) and there’s new higher level gear to loot, new M+ ladder to climb, and new raid achievements/rewards, etc.
Totally on board for this. But gimme an idea what it would look like
World Quest rewards in Legion and BFA automatically scaled with your item level.
Now in SL they feel that automatically scaling to your item level is giving away free upgrades.
Renown was first used to punish those that use World content in SL, then they added Catalog Research for Korthia ( which was upgradable but should have never been requiring an unlock ) now in ZM the have Cypher gear, which hilariously is not upgradable, you have to get new gear once you “unlock” a higher item level.
Open World players did not ask for these “progression systems” at all. This is ALL on team Ion that feel non raiders or M+, only deserve below the bottom of the barrel quality items while having it locked behind hours upon days upon weeks to unlock and/or acquire.
Need more? Rares that do drop items are only up for under 20 seconds, and if you are not lucky, you have to wait for at least an hour for a respawn. Some of the rares do not even spawn everyday. The drop rare for gear is obnoxiously low.
No tier sets for us either, we get stuck with garbage short term buffs. We are already crippled by a drastically lower item level, but they still can’t give us the tier sets.
I don’t have 4+ hours a day to sit and pray I can make it to a certain rare, or any rares to get a tag in and pray for that big 10% chance of an item.
Also World Bosses right now are basically at 1 in ZM. At least in BFA we had two that would alternate weekly that would give a total of 4 items.
This is not progression, this is intentionally throwing roadblocks at certain players to punish them from not Raiding or doing M+.
This is ALL on Ion.

I think many of us would be ok with that. THAT would also let people who want to progress into mythics or raids have gear that ALLOWS it.

Ummm, the tier sets in ZM are the most powerful ever offered outside of the raid.
And the cypher gear falls into that category. I know I used the “Rez Yourself” piece more than once.
I’m loving how the tier sets changes mastery/vers to crit /s. I haven’t been able to use a piece yet on this bear.

Let’s be honest, Korthia had maybe 15-20 minutes of “content” if you were just doing the dailies and leaving
Zereth Mortis is even quicker since it has flying, to do all 3 World Quests and maybe a daily or two is maybe 10-12 minutes
So… 10-20 minutes worth of “content” per day? I can totally see how ultra-casual “World Questing casuals” would quickly become bored/run out of things to do looking at these numbers
Meanwhile, M+'ers have multiple hours worth of nightly content due to the replayability of the keystone system. Same thing for PvP’ers, PvP has almost unlimited replay value so PvP’ers can easily fill up an afternoon or 3-4 hour session just queuing over and over
World-Questers can’t really do the same in the new 9.2 zone. Even flying around tagging rares you’ll run out of them in under an hour
waves hands around entire thread
Poor attempt. And ironic. Because you haven’t had one at all.
That’s hilarious, given the conversations here have been pretty good even with those who didn’t agree, and there are tons who do agree.
We aren’t the problem here.
There’s no “rushing through it.” It literally doesn’t work that way. You’re just proving you have no idea what you’re talking about, didn’t read the thread and you’re only here to fight with people.

We had that in 9.0. Sadly, they abandoned it.

For me, ZM stopped being fun once my cypher thing was at max. No where to go from there. Literally cant get upgrades. And the creation catalyst thing is BS, because you cant even USE cypher gear.
Yep. It was too fun for a lawyer to handle.

Good. Open world content should not reward gear that is higher in item level than instanced content.
Having your robot solve a puzzle for you is not nearly as hard as getting 9 other people to kill a raid boss with you. You get what you work for.
Yup. I was forced to do time walking quests and lfr since that’s all i can get into, to get gear that would work on the catalyst. It was annoying and unfun.

What about all the ppl that get carried by friends or even the group (if we’re talking n/h) Oof.
So silly. I don’t see why someone would have an issue.
Work? You mean playing a video game?

Still harder than people getting carried by an ai robot.
If you want higher ilvl gear, do harder content. The progression in wow is that simple.
Yup, that were the time investment comes in with the sandworn relic gear, it can be upgraded to tier.
But I would rather run mythic 0 to get upgradable gear than grind those stupid, should be on my currency tab, relics.
ZM is a disappointment, does anyone here actually enjoy that place? I was done with it a month ago, robot, rep, tier set, all of it doing the absolute minimum. If you stayed out there grinding rares, you were done before I was. THAT is the OP point, a year to go and nothing to do…

Yeah I’m a bit disappointed that I lost a lot of Mastery/Crit on my Feral
