No New Customizations is the "Don't you guys have phones" of 2021

At the very least, implement the options with assets already in the game and share hairstyles across races. That’s not really asking for too much time or effort.

EDIT: More articles are popping up.

I had to voice my frustration after I saw the last official statement we got to the state of customization in Shadowlands.
So I went to reddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/wow/comments/lri7h1/ion_on_customization_during_shadowlands/

What are you talking about? The content release schedule has been very consistent. They’ve been releasing dungeons, raids, and trials very regularly with a very predictable schedule.

That being said… it’s true that if you want to play FFXIV as WoW, playing WoW outright is going to be the better option. You do overstate your case regarding the activity of the hardcore endgame raiders, but regardless, the loot treadmill is what WoW does best.

And you do have a point with less mechanical customization. Unfortunately… I don’t find that WoW offers anything but the illusion of choice in these matters, anyway. If you have 1,000,000 ways to customize a character, but only 1 “right” choice, you don’t really offer customization, do you? Specializations may as well be classes unto themselves. Every encounter has the ideal talents (and you are expected, by design, to change them regularly to accommodate this). Your best-in-slot gear is determined before patches hit live servers. The only thing that truly separates you from anyone else in your specialization is how kind RNG was to you in allowing you to reach a predefined ideal.

FFXIV finds its strength literally everywhere else. The community goals, the housing, the aesthetic customization, the crafting, the story, the world building… FFXIV wins hands down. Could you imagine WoW having an event to rebuild a segment of a zone that was relevant three expansions ago? With a collective, community-based contributions required for the event? With four ranked crafting seasons? With a permanent reward that could potentially be unique to your server? WoW isn’t interested in any of that, and that’s just one small example.

If you’ve put your time in on the loot treadmill already and find your stamina on that front waning… FFXIV is there waiting for you.

i know this isn’t the point of the conversation, not trying to but-in, but… OP it’s “do you guys not have phones?” not ‘don’t you guys have phones’. sorry just… seeing the misquote was gettin to me.

While I completely understand what they said about having people work on it can deter from other things…FFXIV is a prime example that they can at least afford to do SOME customization every patch. Does not have to be a lot.

Yet, every FFXIV patch you can see a few new haircuts, some new items for your character and so forth.

It took YEARS for them to add this level of customization. Nobody wants to wait years for more.

Expect a lot of abuse.

WoW mobile is in the works!

Of course.

It annoys me to no end that people can complain for years…and years…and years about class tuning, PvP, and PvE content, and the one time the RP community is thrown a bone, led on by “it’ll be an ongoing focus” and “this is just the beginning”, then is let down, people scream that we’re entitled.

I know I’m repeating myself at this point. But they asked for feedback. We gave the feedback. They’re plugging their ears like we aren’t, but these forums are full of ideas that apparently they didn’t even give a second glance to.

Yet, again, people are shoving in our faces that “oh this is more important than your dress up” and “oh stop complaining” while in the same breath, constantly complaining about the content they like.

Sit down. Now. There are different aspects of the game people enjoy, and all of us are valid. Just because this isn’t raiding content that you all are obsessed with doesn’t mean it doesn’t matter. I don’t care about raids but you don’t see me hopping on threads with complaints saying “Stop being entitled”.

It’s so bloody boggling. This mentality of “You’re not allowed to be upset, only I am” is so frustrating, it’s unreal.

We’re not asking for some giant overhaul, we’re not asking for everything right this second. I don’t understand why people can’t comprehend that waiting 2+ years for an ‘ongoing focus’ and for our feedback to be implemented maybe is ridiculous, while other parts of the community get a constant flow of content.

Yep and here I am making one or two threads to voice my dissapointment and people are losing their minds over it.

It’s not like we are in a war against each other. Even if someone doesn’t care about customization for some reason (most are using the new changes though), there is no need for this “against each other”.

It’s really not like we are asking for a lot, or for something that would cut a raid or anything.

Asking people to suck it up and wait for years to no end, to maybe perhaps get a eye color, or something small is simply beyond my understanding.

The worst part is how unrecognized customization is in general.

A certain other game will have, for example, a new hairstyle as a raid reward. Or, essentially, furniture for housing. I would be infinitely more engaged in WoW offered that type of reward for content completion. But they don’t. They want us to change that 1 into a 2, but I’m tired of chasing numbers. However, I would chase that number if it enabled me to complete content that would allow me to unlock additional customization…

So much this. Like… I keep recommending a “Night Warrior” questline for certain customization options to be unlocked. It’d get lore for it, too (I won’t say what because I really don’t feel like sparking a debate here).

But you could apply it as a reward for other things, too. Like, a ‘hairstyle’ as a raid reward would incentivize people to do content. Or maybe something like “felblood skins”, “Tattoos”, everything people have been asking for. It could have all worked hand in hand, but…instead, well.

Yeah, your idea is golden. And now I’m even more disappointed. :stuck_out_tongue:

They even let you customize your character’s animations and have new idle stances, emotes as unlockables/rewards. Really runs circles around what Blizzard offers, and they just keep sprinkling new stuff in like it’s no big deal.

I was so excited for that questline. Not because I care one iota about anything related to Elves, but because I hoped it would herald in more content along those same lines.

I’d love for a Shaman to be able to complete a quest to get nice lightning eyes. Or a Paladin, Holy eyes. Or a Death Knight, getting your eye flavour of choice since the boring blue hardly encapsulates what the Death Knight has become.

Maybe getting exalted with the Dragonmaw Clan unlocks the Dragonmaw tints for your Orc’s eyes and skin, maybe Thrallmar gives that Fel Orc skin.

The possibilities are limitless.

But they want us running on that loot treadmill.

But I soured on that particular carrot a decade ago.

Indeed. Unlocking for example a tribal war paint… perhaps a new Meachagnome robot torso or anything else, even stances, dances and emotes (but that’s another topic) could us bring more content and not less.

Even the challenge mode tower from Legion was more about customization than anything else. Things like that would be very much appreciated, if people react the same way like in the past.

I’m not saying customization could be locked behind such things. It could however be a nice addition.

This right here shows the developers don’t really care about the thoughts and opinions of players:

https://www.wowhead.com/news=321124/warcraft-mobile-games-in-development-at-blizzard-entertainment?fbclid=IwAR2KQ_4EJCz05iY8Q46oujKVzTF_d7bd4kIzoBwz5yiZwmOFyY_x8rEV0XU

They’re hiring for something no one asked for, yet they just CAN’T seem to find the resources to add the stuff we’ve been asking for over the past 17 years. I get they want to expand their market, and that’s fine, but WoW is their cash-cow. If WoW doesn’t keep profits up by giving players the QoL improvements they’ve been asking for and players leave in droves, the entire Blizzard division will crash, making this mobile craze a moot point.

Basically, if they have enough money to make this game, they have enough money to hire customization developers, and enough money to spend implementing new shinies for everyone.

They understand character customization is important, but they can’t seem to make the connection to monetization like with the 6-month sub mounts. :woman_facepalming:

To me, this is a blaring klaxon that WoW is in life support mode—they’re not spending one penny more than the bare minimum.

So, logical next step: just put character customization for the less popular races (i.e., non-humans and non-BElves) in the shop already.

Woa more mobile stuff… I bet we can’t complain about that and should be happy we will perhaps in 2 years hear anything new about customization. Right?

This has been their company motto for years now it seems, sadly.

I’m actually aware, but the title was too long
