It really is a damn shame. The expansion needs something more than a playable Dragon race that is so limited in scope. Could have at least had 4 or 5 specs.
I hate the design philosophy of Drakthyr.
They have a tons of bells and whistles on what is inherently a super non-customizable race. You can pick tons of skin colors and horn styles and whatnot, but the new race can only be one class, canāt wear actual armor, canāt use mounts, and has one racial model for visage form per sex.
Additionally, the new class can only be 2 roles, so you canāt play mdps or tank on the new race.
Itās like they half-assed development on the core parts of developing a new race just so they could add extra sprinkles and fluff to HAIR styles.
Wait what?
You can only mount in Visage form. Canāt mount as Drakthyr.
Ohhh got ya.
I meanā¦meh? Seems like people would rather they finish up things that have been expected for a really long time yet are still in limbo like heritage armor sets
I donāt necessarily mind going super in-depth on an incredibly specific concept. You just run into difficulties when people arenāt into that concept, so you need to spread the love a bit.
WoW itself, I think, suffered as a whole due to this mindset - they completely designed the game around the eSports aspects and forgot to appeal to their actual broad (and casual) playerbase.
Right? Weāre missing 8 sets
Iām going to assume the dragon people will come with one.
Theirs is essentially in the character creation. Roughly three different sets with half a dozen tints.
By all accounts they have built the new Gnoll models to work the same way that player models do, the same way they did with Vulpera. They have added so much to them, animations, rigging etc. Just look at them compared to the new Furbolg models. Itās a night and day difference the level of more detail they have added to the Gnolls.
We may not be getting new ARs in Dragonflight. But I would put a couple dollars on Gnolls at the least being a new AR style race going into 11.0 the same way the first wave of the BFA ARs came from Legion.
Some story at the end of DF has us bringing the Gnolls and prolly one or two other races (please be Centaur) into 11.0 with us and they become a feature for whatever 11.0 is.
His wording was āthere are no allied races planned at launchā
Which very well mean they can come at a patch later. Or not.
Verbatim:
Crendor (Question): Are there gonna be new Allied Races in this expansion, and would any of them be Tuskarr or is that something you canāt talk about?
Ion (Answer): Um, there are no - no Allied Races currently planned, though itās a system that we have that for sure weāre very open to, you know, using where it makes sense, where out through our journeys, we encounter new cultures that, you know, could we could see joining the Horde or the Alliance or both? Weāll see where that leads us down the line. But for Dragonflight right at launch? No, our focus is on the Dracthyr as the new race.
Doesnāt exactly inspire me with confidence. He said āNoā twice, with a lot of cushioning the blow with ānever-say-neverā-rhetoric thereafter.
Weāll see where that leads us down the line. But for Dragonflight right at launch? No, our focus is on the Dracthyr as the new race.
Thatās the part I heard the loudest.
Youāll have that noise on any wood walkway, wooden floored structure, bridge etcā¦ Stone would also be questionable.
Just so you guys can complain that theyāre not unlocked for free? No thanks. Beside, we get a whole new base race, something we havenāt had since MoP.
The more hurdles, the better!
Iā¦ donāt believe him. Not exactly anyways. I think Blizzard are moving in a direction of surprises, so, maybe heās telling the truth, but maybe heās being coy about it?
Should have been a given with a new hero race/class combo being created. People tend to focus on āleaksā too often.
Honestly. With all the half truths and outright lies that have come out of Ionās mouth over the last two xpacs, I canāt put a lot of faith in anything he says.
Iām with Indaria on this. His choice of words at the end there: āBut for Dragonflight right at launch? Noā. That specific choice in how he worded it is just so much lawyer talk to cover his rear when āsurpriseā new AR later in the xpac happens.
Do people still say NoDuh? Cause yeah, no duh. Dracthyr was always going to be the only race we were getting in DF
