No New Allied Races in Dragonflight CONFIRMED!

Thank god. No more Allied races. No more things to unlock for the purposes of buying a race change or reroll. More customization skins and unlocks for what we already have.

Nope. The bottom is padded. We lead them around paved, wooden and metallic surfaces all the time for transport and processing. My rubber-soled boots are infinitely more noisy.

It has a lot to do with an even distribution of weight that you just don’t get with other foot designs.

I’ve been in a farm and I have no idea why you’re trying to convince me hooves don’t make sound. That’s not to mention how big Tauren are for the stealthiness aspect we were discussing.

Rogues that have an urgent need to be stealthy seem to use various magics to conceal themselves in lore, too. So padded hooves is kinda a moot point anyway.

Been around both my entire life and you’re right, horses shoed or not, makes the clip-clop sound, not cows, deer and goats.

But that doesn’t even matter. Stealth is magic, which is why you can stealth in a brightly lit room so to bring real life standards into WoW is beyond silly.

I’m not saying they’re completely without sound - just more silent than myself, a human of average build wearing typical footwear. They don’t have that obnoxious clip-clop sound you get with a parade horse going down mainstreet or inserted into Westerns as Stern Shootemup rides into town.

The size, you have a point, but the same point can be made about Night Elves, Orcs, Kul Tiran, and more - races that no one batted an eye about.

Good news! We’re not getting those either.

Eh, Tauren are way bigger than other races, not only in height, but also width and weight. All of that together, paired with hooves (even if more silent than initially assumed) makes for a combination that’s difficult to be stealthy, which is why I say they make little sense being Rogues.

The catform Tauren Druid makes more sense because not only do they turn into a feline (even if a weird one) that usually makes use of ambush tactics.

The argument that Stealth is magic-related makes sense from a modern WoW perspective, but I don’t think that’d fly when talking about Classic when Rogues were just considered skilled assassins and Stealth was waaaaay less powerful. Rogues initially had, save for Posion-related abilities, only physical damage iirc.

??? Why? Blizz… WHY??

OP you are misquoting because you only read wowhead and you don’t watch the source. Ion said it’s not planned at LAUNCH, but he said they are open to introduce new races down the line as you encounter new cultures.

They pretty much canonized magic stealth in this moment.

Again, I get the point you’re making. It’s valid. But we’ve had Gnome and Blood Elf Warriors for ages. Warlocks of any description walking around freely. Female Night Elf Druids. And so on.

For example, I would argue Orcs have a couple “Core” classes: Warriors and Shamans. Then some borderline… the “Why not?” classes that fill out the rest of the selection, like Warlocks, Rogues and Hunters. Then the “No way!” category, like Priests and Paladins.

I would argue that Tauren fall into the “Why not?” category, and always have. They’re not the inherent fantasy of the race, but they don’t strain credulity anymore than a Gnome Warrior or whatever else. Certainly not, as you stated, like a Gnome Demon Hunter.

Hey, I did say it makes sense in modern WoW in the first place, just not in Classic/Vanilla because some people made use of the Classic lore argument.

He did qualify it as “right at launch” when he did the typical Ion thing and couched the response, but he did overtly state that there are no plans straight up. He said much the same of Covenant races. But if you want to take that as confirmation of Allied Races… all the more power to you.

Sounds right for a GD post.

I listened in. He said no Allied Races right before the same song-and-dance of “never-say-never” rhetoric he uses to cushion the blow whenever making a statement like this.

Considering we are getting a whole new class/race I am fine with that. We don’t always need non stop allied races. Not to mention racials play a big part so coming up with new racials all the time to balance I am sure is a pain as well.

In time they will add more. Be patient.
