Its fun for me… so I guess you are wrong.

Yes, play whatever you want, and if you look, you might be able to find people who want that. But also understand that if you go boomkin, you WILL likely have a hard time finding a raiding guild, or groups that you don’t set up yourself. Goes both ways.

Min/maxxing isn’t necessary, and there will be people who don’t care, but be ready for there being a lot of people who DO care.

I would rather the min/max debates/discussions over the more common arguments.

People will be shocked at the dps difference between hybrids and pure dps. And when the raid starts to struggle, they will be shocked when they have to be dropped because of it.

from 06 onwards, in my guild we had maybe 25 continuous players, the rest we either pugged, pulled from the bench or had someone on an alt come in,
Good guilds, that aren’t pushing cutting edge and just trying to have fun will take you as long as you pass a few simple criteria
Don’t be a rectum in the voice coms if you join
Don’t be a rectum in the raid chat
Don’t beg for something rare -
That was the end of my personal list, others may add more or less, perhaps some people don’t mind if raid chat is full of memes /shrug

If the raid is struggling because overall DPS is too low then that means that your pures are asleep at the keyboard.

Or their tanks are awful and can’t hold threat.
:addendum: I learned real quick because my friends dad didn’t give a F about threat tables on his rogue lol.

If people only cared to min max all you’d ever see is dwarfs and orcs lol

Have you not heard of Elitist Jerks?

The problem here is that even if you are casual and you are looking for someone to join your raid team and you get the choice between two applicants, one a fury warrior the other an enhance shaman. You are looking for a dps, and you know even if that fury warrior is mediochre and the enhance shaman is amazing, the fury warrior is almost certainly gonna do the job you need(killing things) better. So why would you ever choose to take something significantly worse intentionally.

Now on a game that is better balanced like legion/bfa skill is almost certainly going to be more important than class for how much dmg a character can do. In vanilla the difference in balance is so high and the skill differential so small that skill is very rarely going to overtake class.

I think min-maxing takes the fun out of the game and has a distinct lack of adventure or creativity in it but I know some people enjoy it so good on you if you like it.

The problem is if it’s a hardcore guild, they’d probably rather have a pure dps class than you.

If it’s a casual guild, then they are likely to be struggling to fill healer spots, so you will be probably be helping the guild most by healing. And if you’re healing as a dps spec, you’re not contributing what you could in that role. And if you wipe due to lack of heals, then yeah, it’s kind of your fault, or at least your share of the blame is higher than those who are playing an optimal spec.

I wonder if healers are going to be even more hard to come by than they were in vanilla, because I think back in the day, 90% of the healers rolled their toon to pew pew and then didn’t realize until endgame that they were going to have to heal exclusively.

Play what you like.

I’m going to play Ret and have a great time. However… i know they’re not the best and some groups won’t accept me. Min/max is how a lot of people view this game, and that’s fun for them.

Will it make me roll a human fury warrior to be one of the best pve dps? No

I plan on playing a prot paladin and shadow priest as alts. The SP will primarily be for when BGs drops. I will heal alt/pug raids on the paladin, the SP won’t raid unless we happen to make a 3rd alt raid, and I would almost certainly be healing.

I’m not against these meme specs, shadow is fun in PvP, and I like both tanking and healing dungeons as a paladin. I wouldn’t advise taking them progression raiding though. To me raiding is a group effort, I don’t find it fair to the other 39 people who would be carrying me. Casual guilds feel it more than a hardcore guild. A hardcore guild could take a handful of these memes and still progress. For a more casual guild, these hybrids could be the difference between wiping or not, and the more you have the more pressure you put on to the rest of the raid.

I’m not telling you not to play what you enjoy, but you should be warned that you will not be widely accepted. My advice would be to either heal and get the dps gear after the main specs, or create another healer to raid with, and take your meme to the alt raid.
