No Live Q&A at Blizzcon This year. Speaks volumes

You’re not just there to talk about all the good things you’re going to. you need to drum up good p r on the things you’ve messed up on.

It’s not about saying you suck it’s about trying to get direct answers. Because they haven’t given any. And no there’s no obligation to… But if you were a fan of course you would want to ask why

I certainly understand why they’re avoiding this minefield. But it could also suggest that they are not taking responsibility. Which is not good for shareholders. I certainly wouldn’t have faith. They’ve messed up a lot of games lately.

Yeah I just don’t see any gratification coming from it.

Like “we tried some new things and it didn’t work out, we’re working on it”

I mean that very well could be the truth even if it’s just general cookie cutter response.

It looks better than putting your head in the sand and acting like everything is okay

I mean maybe they will preemptively address it during the broadcast so there is no need for a q/a that would be the best way imo.

for sure perhaps this entire conversation is for naught. I guess we’ll see

I’ve just never seen anybody give themselves hardball questions that I think would be deserving at this juncture

I would understand if d4 got skipped over and left out of blizzcon completely. While also not allowing QA. That would be some serious hiding.

But surely they will have atleast one slot for d4 updates/announcments.

How did this work in the past?

As in, how did you get to get up to the mike and ask a question?

Was it first come, first server? A lottery?

It would be curious if they used a lottery how many “hostile” questions they would have vs “When are we going to get a necromancer” questions.

If it was first come, I can see the Angry lining up early. If it’s a lottery, well, it’s pot luck and I bet most players aren’t that angry.

It seems like it is that “Iʻm mad” scenario.

“Im mad!”
“Alright, heres a solution to your problem”
“NO! I donʻt want a solution! I want to be mad!”

I don’t get why for Q&A sessions they just have a list of things you can’t ask. So that way they don’t run into issues?

People would ask them anyway? It’s a live mic.

Not really. You set your boundaries before hand, if someone breaks it then the moderator would ignore it or say “no” and move on to the next.

The genie is out of the bottle at that point. Then you have 20 years of memes of Blizz saying no comment, that was on the no list. Sorry, go back to the drawing board. It’s not a good idea.

That has the potential to make the company look really bad.

I mean…

By setting boundaries?

There are certain things you can do and certain things you can’t do. And before you try to say “but free speech.” That only applies to the government.

thats why you dont just say it sucks and needs to be fixed. you bring up that it lost a massive amount of player base quickly and then ask what is being done to try and mend/bring back players. you cant just yell this sucks fix it now because even people that agree with you will get mad at you wasting everyones time stating the obvious.

And if they violate what they agreed to then they get suspended from the event.

Yeah, setting boundaries around certain things is often an answer itself. Let’s take just one of the questions from the OP:

Blizzard likely doesn’t want to answer this. Everyone already knows the answer is yes. If Blizzard outright says yes, they will receive backlash. If Blizzard ignores the question when the person on the mic asks it, the players will also take that as a yes. The best case scenario is to avoid the question altogether.

This is PR 101.

I went the meet and greet for the charity dinner in 2017. You got to get pictures with the devs who showed up.

I met Ion, but he was swamped, so didn’t get to ask questions just got a quick pic. Then met J Allen Brack. It was all small talk about different blizzard games. I told him I was excited for the WoW announcements and that was it lol. The rest of the devs were from hearthstone and overwatch and I don’t play those games much. I sat at a table with some hearthstone devs and was like a fish out of water because I don’t play that game lol.

It’s certainly was not a QA.

The portal pass seems to be a lounge where some devs might hang out or pass by. I doubt I can ask them “why the heck haven’t you buffed my main!?”

Everything is an outrage and a scandal! This slap in the face speaks volumes for this ded game! I need to make an overreaction post about things!
