No Full screen Mode?

Personally, I used borderless mode because I Alt+Tab and navigate between my two monitors often.

I know fullscreen is used by those with multi-monitor setups and some people actually have more stability with fullscreen mode enabled.

I can understand it being disabled in DX12 but there's no reason for it to be disabled in DX11.
Adding my voice too... why remove true Fullscreen for Mac players? We certainly aren't constrained by DX11 vs DX12, and Metal handles Fullscreen just fine (as it did in the last couple of expansions).

My biggest issue is that I keep my desktop at a lower-than-max resolution (I have old eyes), and WoW would automatically switch to the highest (and 144 Hz) when I launched it. Can't do that now, and the in-game scaling is absolutely decimating frame rates plus making objects fuzzy and choppy when moving, and is causing me to become motion sick while playing. Not to mention getting notifications popping up over the game, which REALLY kills performance.

Not even the command-line options to set width/height will force WoW to change resolution.

Yes, Blizz, this is enough to get me to quit, and I've been playing since BC, plus brought others in who've been playing nearly that long. I can't play a game that makes me physically ill.

If you won't bring back Fullscreen, at LEAST let us tell the game what res we want it to switch to so we can avoid scaling.

Its beyond ridiculous and seriously unprofessional

Guess I'll leave my feedback here, since the blues in the Tech Support forums want to bury their heads in the sand and pretend that nothing is wrong.

Removing Fullscreen for DX11 users and trying to spray paint DX12 on a 14 year old game is awful and should be reverted.

Game runs like a three legged gazelle in a tar pit in windowed mode.

Fix it.
Can I have my real fullscreen mode back please? Game runs worse for me without it.

They literally shut down one of the biggest threads on this topic in the tech support section. All they said was “ya we did it and not going to change it, we’ll try and make it better tho!”..... Then shut down the thread. So mad

its related to dx12.

Honestly i dont care because i always played windowed fs, but if theres people still playing fullscreen wow with 1 monitor, i get that they wont like this.

I'm generally playing on my laptop in the living room (so I can conversate with the wife and thus have free game time) so yeah, this is going to be really really annoying.

Blizz basically said 'suck it up'.

No Dx11 FS = No Crossfire.

Now I have to decide if I want to pony up for a new card to play the same game at the same performance I already had.

DX12 WFS is just horrible, 20-30% performance drop over DX11 WFS for me...closer to 50-60% when taking into account the loss of Crossfire.
My computer is what i’m sure most would call a potato. It actually isn’t a whole lot bigger than one. After reading all these posts I was concerned. I had massive performance issues in legion. Took me a long time to figure out it was because of some option in the launcher to do with streaming. I ended up with a fairly stable 80 fps on high settings.

After the patch I am now getting exactly the same thing in windowed full screen. I have yet to notice a difference in fps. I seem to have much longer loading times though.

how it impacts systems will vary greatly from system to system. The ability for your system to gain any performance will be minimal while the ability for this change to gimp performance is pretty high

I did some tests before the patch, and retested afterward.

I basically turn off all addons, and fly the bird from Dalaran to Shipwreck cove, and log the FPS and time it took. No settings changes other than the DX11 vs DX12 (and true fullscreen before the patch)

Pre-Patch, DX11 Xfire - low 82.3, avg 132.1, max 178.2
Post patch, DX11 (2 cards no XFire) - 53.3, 91.1, 137
Post patch, DX12 (2 cards no Xfire) - l21.9, 56.7, 98.1
Post patch, DX11 (single card) - 51.9, 92.4, 133
Post patch, DX12 (single card) - 44.8, 76.3, 114.2

I don't have single/non-Xfire numbers from 7.3.5 because I never bothered to test for it...

I'm all for embracing the new, better, more efficient technologies...but at least for me, it's currently close to a 65% drop in max frame rate (DX11 XF vs DX12 single)...that's a whole lot of 'optimization' that needs to happen.

I have a 1050ti knocking around somewhere that I pulled out because my XF setup was faster...I'll try and test that and see how it compares.
I cancelled my sub and submitted a bug report for the missing fullscreen, mentioning that I’d resub when they got the issue fixed.

Playing on a desktop replacement laptop, i7 6700K @4GHz, desktop 980 GTX, 24GB. Sometimes I do go out to 2nd and 3rd monitors, but I still always use fullscreen because of the greatly reducedt system load and reasons mentioned by others above. I’ve gotten Gsync working in windowed fs and about 90% of my performance back, but the inefficiency of windowed mode gives me heat issues that I’m not willing to risk.

LOL, leave it to DX12 to take the direct out of DirectX. Here’s to Vulkan returning it to the redheaded stepchild it was at the dawn of 3D gaming.
Slight improvement with DX12 over DX11 with the 1050ti, but next to nothing...

DX11 - 39.7, 115.7, 161.8
DX12 - 76.3, 126.6, 172.0

So, on a three minute flight, I saw an 11FPS increase over DX11, about 9%. And given it looks like I had a glitch in there somewhere, I suspect it's probably not even that much if I could be bothered to run half a dozen flights to iron out any spikes. I suspect that had I been able to test in DX11 Exclusive FS, it would have beaten out DX12.

Of course, it's still lower than my Xfire cards were before the patch.

Yay...progress !

Yeah, apparently complaining about widespread tech issues directly caused by the removal of Fullscreen is considered derailing the thread with "misleading and incorrect information".

What a meme. I guess I shouldn't expect more from 2018 Activi$ion Blizzard.
I want real full screen back. Better performance, and I can minimize the game to save power/generate less heat. Yeah, I'm into green stuff and tree huggin'. I am a druid after all. I can set 8FPS for background running, but it's just not the same. Want my fully full screen back please, not this bad imitation.

1. Those without 10 can't run SLI since DX11 doesn't support SLI in Windowed

Who the hell spends a ton of money for an SLI-capable PC and doesn't run windows 10?

Non sequitur. "I wouldnt do this so nobody should" is irrelevant.
Fullscreen or GTFO. Not all of us are ADD riddled teenagers who can't function unless they have 26 things going on simulateously.

I know right. Very disheartening to hear a response like that. Blizzard your Activision is showing.
