I know people will think im absolutely crazy, but I have been add on free since vanilla. I have raided in every single tier since vanilla successfully. I have mythic raided without add ons as well.
Am I at a disadvantage? I guess I am, at least to start. But once I learn the encounters I have zero issues whatsoever. I am able to down bosses without issue.
My issue is I dont like add ons telling me what to do. I want to be fully in control without help. Then again I come from a era of gaming where gaming guides was extremely rare. And I have always had to figure out my games on my own.
Competitive pvp when I was super serious about it, I must admit I used a few add ons. But I dont any longer. I can admit this is a major disadvantage. Probably why I am not so serious about pvp any longer.
I will be raiding today without add ons. Ill be raiding next week without add ons. This has been me since vanilla…
I admittedly really want to see this. Not necessarily permanent, but I want to see RWF content and mythic raids done without addons. Not because I find the competitive elements interesting – I don’t, and believe they actively harm the game for the majority of subscribers due to tuning being done to create races between top guilds. I want to see it because the game would get better for the majority at that point. Several mechanics would be straight up unresolvable or not resolvable quickly enough in the absence of addons, and the dev team’s hand would get forced by a handful of loud voices.
This sounds like a fun activity but I am “guilty” of using a ton of addons. I probably have 60 active.
I also have about 8800 weakauras. I usually sub to a top/world first streamer when they release their UI to get elements from them
That being said, I accidentally turned off all my addons during the first boss of a key recently, I clicked disable addons instead of ignore because I was getting the message of addon errors
It would have taken too long to enable them again
And ya know what, I was totally fine and we timed it. Addons are super-useful but they’re not going to turn a bad player into a good one, or a lack of them won’t turn a good player into a bad one
you will never see it, the people at the top of everything in game rely to heavily on addon’s to play the game for them, they also have custom keybinds… half the players today wouldn’t know what to do if they couldn’t us them
You dont suddenly become a good player because you use an add on.
These sorta threads are to chest puff up people who can brag about doing their trivial content with no add ons installed. If you raid with no add ons, you are still most likely using them by proxy. As others in your raid team are using them to call out timers, plan cds, etc.
Timers are the most important aspect of add ons for raiding, imo. Otherwise, we just would have people with “add ons” by hand. You’d just have people with handwritten notes and stopwatches. I know this because in older games before add ons/WoW existed, this is what people used for higher end raiding when it was applicable.
When I raided in EverQuest I would use a stop watch for key abilities, and I had a folder with hand written notes for various raid mobs, that I could reference for what I was supposed to do for different phases/abilities/etc.
You’re bad and everything you say shows it.
Im tired of seeing subpar players like you claiming you do X content without addons when you clearly dont and would fail miserably if you tried.
Wow endgame content doesn’t work without weakauras.
“Y-you t-think this is my only account!!???”
I killed H LK 10 without a single “hand holding” addons at the time.
All I had was Recount and Omen Threat Meter.
Both could be disabled with minimum impact to the fight.
I don’t know about anything higher than LFR->Heroic, but the bosses themselves have enough cues (spoken lines, cast bars, number of casts etc.) for their abilities.
I do agree that the UI needs serious improvements, but DBM and WA are not needed, per se. They just help in some aspects of the fight. DBM in particular is only useful for the timers.
WA could be easily discarded if we a had a better default UI.
But buff/debuff placing on the screen, tooltip information, cast timers etc. Are all a pain to keep up with without addons.
Finally, it’s hilarious that people think top players wouldn’t still be top without addons.
They would. Their execution is helped by the addon, not automated by it.
At most, some would need to adapt and very few would have to quit.
You killed an easy boss back when the game was 20 times easier than what it is now.
wow, woooooow.
The game changed completely during mop and the difficulty is raised with each expansion after it.
Vanilla-wrath was literally baby tier easy compared to anything that came after mop.
People literally had macros that did their optimal rotation to fight tank/spank bosses back then.
Literally every person claiming stuff like this lacks anything relevant done in recent expacs, and no, aotc doesn’t mean anything, anyone can get aotc.
The addon is called paying attention and it’s the single worst addon. WoW players hate it.
Same players that constantly call others bad over this call other MMOs such as FF14 or anything RuneScape “easier” then get horribly nuked by the easiest content.
Also, that Worgen hunter is getting horribly upset over killing pixels though. Must be their day job.
I actually tired to watch some raiding streams or videos. The entire screen is smothered with Add-Ons, frames and all the other bloated screen clutter etc. Cant even make out whats happening lol! Seems that people are playing the Add-on instead of the game lol!
Lets see them play the game
I get there are some pitfalls regarding the Blizz UI and I hope there are improvements or it gets fixed.
Neither combat log nor WCL are addons, so eliminating damage meters wouldn’t really do anything on that front except make the data more annoying to access.
