If this is true, then I might try them again.

I was doubtful of this claim, but it seems it was actually removed on 12-May-2026 per the Hotfix History thread.

Prey

• Removed the once per week restriction on Preferential Killing which generates a hunt with custom parameters. Players may complete Custom Hunts as often as desired after reaching rank 10 in the Season 1 Prey Journey, but subsequent Custom Hunts in a week give reduced rewards.
• Increased Prey hunt progress gained from completing World Quests, defeating Ambushes, delivering Ripostes, and interacting with Remnants of Anguish.
• Removed Hunter’s Momentum from Hard and Nightmare mode Prey hunts.
• Significantly increased the number of the Coalescing Anguish spawns in the outdoor world.

Hunter’s Momentum (3rd bullet) is the one that would remove some progress after dying on Hard and 100% progress reset on Nightmare, so that’s gone now.
