Predictably, the writers completely neglected to include the Nightborne in any significant or even minor questline in Midnight’s initial story.
Thalyssra, who is shown to be present in Sunfury Spire, doesn’t even have any written dialogue explaining what she’s doing there, or if she’s doing anything other than standing around.
The Blood Elves are struggling to fill ranks with their forces pulled in multiple directions, and yet, their closest allies in the Horde are nowhere to be seen.
Respectfully, I’m aware that relevant Horde races and characters have been been omitted from stories in Midnight they should be apart of, but this thread isn’t about them.
This thread is about the Nightborne, the Blood Elves’ closest Horde allies that owe a debt to the Blood Elves for their aid in liberating their home, whose leaders are currently married, that are not even afforded minor representation in Midnight’s story.
Make it make sense. Imagine how amazing Zul Aman’s campaign would have been if it ended with a Zandalari emissary, or even Talanji herself arriving with a force of Zandalari to render aid?
We’re led to believe there’s internal discussions that happen with WoW’s writing team when considering relevant characters and races that should appear, and this is what we get..? If the story you’re wanting to tell produces fumbles after fumbles, it’s time to release the reins.
I half expected for some contrivance to be introduced that specifically kept the Horde out of Silvermoon, but no such thing presented itself. Instead, we have Alonsus Faol somehow able to open portals all over the world for the sake of Arator.
Are they though, they just became allies in Legion, the rest of the horde actually saved the blood elves in TBC and again in Cataclysm when zul’aman tried to attack them.
Thats the same case for the rest of the horde as well, the amani were allies with the horde in warcraft 2, one of their tribes IS horde, and their empress Talanji is horde, who could put sense in their heads…
Im just saying, this isnt “an attack” against the nightborne, its just blizzard being against horde as a whole.
It sucks yeah, it doesnt make sense, but this is an alliance game
Did the writers think Thalyssra is the kind of woman who would see the literal forces of darkness trying to destroy her husband’s nation, go “meh” and get back to reading the latest Suramar gossip rag?
You can probably count on one hand the amount of named Nightborne NPCs in Silvermoon. Most of the Nightborne we do see appear as vintners in Goldenmist Village.
The Nightborne could have been involved in the sidequest in maintaining the runestones keeping the lightbloom at bay, aiding the Blood Elves who are struggling.
Valewalker Farodin, who aided the Nightborne in creating the Arcan’dor, could have been brought in to investigate the lightbloom.
The Nightborne should have been (alongside the Forsaken) THE premier Horde race all over Silvermoon in major focus. The multitude of reasons is staggering.
*Thalyssra an Lor’themar are MARRIED.
*Sin’dorei and Shal’dorei are both deeply Arcane based societies
*Suramar ‘owes’ a debt to the Blood Elves for their contribution in Suramar. However I’m putting a little asterisk there that they shouldn’t ‘owe’ a debt. Defense of an allied kingdom shouldn’t be obligatory, it’s willingly given.
Rather than showcase what two combined magical societies can do when so interwoven - Magi hailing back from the time of the Kaldorei Empire and the ceaseless magical progression that the Thalassian’s have been known for - we get nothing.
Duskwatch or hell, perhaps even the Shal’doreis own version of Paladins would have been so much more cool than what Blizzard will plan to do.
Which is especially annoying after they’ve suggested in previous expansions that the one place where Nightborne truly shine in magic is in creating portals.
Sigh … setting aside the Army of the Light, HEs, and VEs for the moment. They’re fine being there, and providing Alliance representation. I’m not opposed in concept, only in practice…
But imagine how cool it would have been in Midnight to have the mainline Horde representation being comprised of largely NB, Forsaken and Frostwolves/Hammerfall? Sure, have some main portal’d in Kali Horde names popping up, especially having at least Rokhan serving as an intermediary to help Liadrin deal with the Amani, but generally in this first wave of defense … its the NBs and the EK Hordies backing their ally for Horde rep? Wouldnt that be great?
There are some Nightborne in the winery of one of the towns. It feels so strange to have that whole wedding novel and not seeing Thalyssra.
It does have more issues though. Thalyssra and the nightborne as an allied race was added the same time void elves were in a branching faction quest and also participated in save Talanji. She is connected to the story by both the high/void/blood elves, she’s a nightborne that existed during night elf expansion into Amani lands, and has interacted with Zandalari in the past. She’s not getting the Veressa treatment is she?
