Chronicles states they didn’t attack at first. They let the orcs and humans travel through their forests so long as it was just to move through their lands. It was only after the orcs started harvesting woods that they had enough and attacked. And yes a 17 year old game has some out dated lore and shouldn’t be the only thing used for reference.
