I think you mean since Wrath… but I believe the primary goal was judging demand. I’m sure money was certainly a strong #2.
I never said that I thought the early name reservations were a conspiracy or a rip-off; I don’t think either of those things. I think the name reservations were a decent way to advertise the game, generate and maintain hype, as well as get some people to subscribe early. What someone would have gotten from subscribing early was very clear and straightforward; I wasn’t trying to accuse Blizzard of trying to rip-off their customers by employing underhanded marketing tactics, as I don’t think that was the case.
I couldn’t agree more
Let’s say that they let us reserve names without being subbed.
Chinese bots take all current names in retail and put them up for sale.
Well blizzard did say they were going to repeat the ‘full Vanilla experience’.
with the lame number of servers available, I’d say they were being true to their word.
Good ol’ Blizzard: pennywise and pound-foolish, as usual.
Skäl.

Do you honestly think servers cost real money these days? Do you think they are unboxing a piece of hardware and bolting it into a rack?
So in the end, Oceanic doesn’t get any new server? Rip Arugal
Blizzard obviously thinks so.
And ‘pennywise…etc’ is a SAYING: look it up.
Skäl.

EDIT: Blizzard has had YEARS for this. No excuse.
And why does that need to be done 2 weeks prior to launch? You could do the exact same thing 24-48 hours prior and people looking to solely play Classic are out a day or two on their sub if they are compelled so badly to reserve a name.
But specifically to your point: has that ever been done before? Because I’ve never heard of a case where players had to buy names off china sites which reserve popular names/words via bots in advance. And if that WAS a thing, I still wouldn’t care because I can just make up a name on the spot as I did with “Muzein” 14 years ago and anyone dumb enough to support china mmo sites that sell anything, deserve to be out that cash on principle alone.
…and I use either LOTR or Viking names, except for my (few) Tauren which receive Plains Nations names. Almost never get denied.
Creativity is seemingly a gift to only a few these days sadly!
Skäl!

EDIT: totally agree with your ‘cash on principle’ statements.
Just saying anything could have happened and some would cry about it. I personally don’t care what my toon name ended up being.
its on the west COAST of said continent <3
I find it odd and a little funny that they unstickied the warning thread about overpopulated realms. This just prior to uncapping the reservation numbers to 50.
what a nerd.

Skäl!
AND
Does anyone know when Westfall will be showing up on the list?
read the post you are commenting on…
Thanks for clarifying IRL daughter…
what are you going on about. “Lame number of servers” they don’t want to ruin there game so there only releasing enough server to meet the demand. Omar stated that they have more servers on back up if need be. So what is the issue. If the servers get full they will add more. They gave us everything we asked for. Also i don’t no what you mean by pennywise, do you mean cheap? if so do you even know how much they put into this?
We asked for the Vanilla GAMING esperience; NOT THE LOGIN ONE!
Come to think, didn’t ol’ J. himself promise that, back at Blizzcon17, during the reveal?
Right now, and with HOURS to go, ALL the servers are FULL. Blizzard has totally underestimated the appeal and drive for the Vanilla/Classic experience.
I sincerely hope they have more than four extra servers to add.
Hope I’m wrong!
