I wouldn’t call “have gear equipped” and “don’t stand in avoidable damage” defensives. 580 is extremely high for an 8, you won’t be taking the damage to need defensives.
I mean 580 is fine for 8s if you are already a good tank which doesnt apply here.
Also youll never be accepted a group. Im insta declining that ilvl for any key.
As a new tank you’re more than likely to die a few times if you don’t use your abilities in there. More experienced are of course going to dance through it with wase, but that’s not the target audience here.
If they’re training in delves, why would they apply for a key? That’s what they do when they have some experience and with that comes some gear.
I thought u were saying 580s should try and jam 8s lol
Really learning how to tank is no different than any other class or spec.
My first suggestion is use wow head to learn what abilities are ( or read your abilities ) and when is the best time to use them. Most of the time you will find priorities that should stay on cool town. Once you get that part figured out then you can use other abilities. For example on warrior ignore pain, shield block, shield charge ( I forgot the name of the ability that gives the same as shield block ), thunderclap and shield slam are the primary abilities. If you went into a 2 key and ONLY used these abilities you would likely be okay.
2nd I would say learn the mobs. You can use addons like mythic dungeon tools to see each mob in a dungeon as well as what abilities they can use so you know which abilities you need to help interrupt or stun.
3rd understand pull paths. Mythic dungeon tools allows you to set up a pull path you can ever put notes on it, link it to the group to show when to lust, when to save cool downs etc.
Lastly use key bindings instead of clicking. I know people will argue with me and say they are as good as anyone who doesn’t click. It’s simply not true the pure logic of it with the limitations blizzard puts on hockey’s using key bindings instead of clicking is far superior.
With that being said I would also suggest going into setting and adjusting the bound keys as you see fit.
Or do what most people do wing it and hope for the best. Like I said above using those 4-5 abilities as a warrior will get you damn near to 10s. And honestly if you wipe a group or brick a key it really doesn’t matter as long as you have a thick enough skin to get messages saying how bad you are
Worst thing about key tanking is getting the mob % count correctly without having to back track.
Hardest thing about tanking raid is mobility probably. I play Brew so it’s no problem in raid.
did you read the post or just decide to comment? I said it WAS NOT THE 100% tank all play you dip TURD… Delves is a simple way to LEARN to use your OWN self reliance, but you’d know that if you weren’t just another BDK…
DPS can learn on target dummies. I think healers can learn best in pug BGs (it is hellish, but you WILL be battle tested). tanks don’t really have anything
the closest thing there is to a place to learn how to tank is follower dungeons.
in these dungeons, you can take as much time as you want. you can mark the targets, look them up, so what they do, etc. the group won’t attack until you do. you have all the time in the world.
If you want to learn your defensives, then try to solo normal dungeons and see how far you can get. of course there are some mechanics in almost any current dungeon that make soloing the whole thing pretty close to impossible.
but your main job as a tank is to gather the mobs and then survive the pull.
when you try to solo, you have to use your defensives. you get to see how far you can push yourself before you need to kite or what it takes to eventually fall over.
but unless you have a dedicated group of friends or guildmates, the only real way to learn to tank is to grab a tank class and get in there and do it.
m0 dungeons are probably the best at this point. i don’t know how many people are even running them right now, but make your own group and tell people you are new. then hope for the best.
you could even put it in the group advertisement. “new to tanking. learning group”
i only tank to 2-2.5k score myself. late in the season right now, I look for low level keys started by a healer to help them out. just for fun.
I am sure a new tank could get a group like that too. some seasoned players might just hop in a help you out.
follower dungeons would also help here, if you fail you arent getting yelled at.
I’m pretty sure the reason the op is even mentioning this is that learning to tank is different than DPS. Your group depends on you. At least theoretically. As a DPS you can join a dungeon and literally do nothing (as long as you don’t get vote kicked) and win the dungeon. It’s not at all the same.
Now realistically at this point in the season, virtually any dungeon you join will have other players that are geared enough to not really need a tank. But that’s just overlooking the concept.
When I returned to the game a few months ago as a resto druid,I did a bunch of follower dungeons. Sure you miss a ton of what it takes to heal hard content, but you get familiar with your abilities, what works and what doesn’t, and maybe some improvements on you keybind layout and such.
I’d probably recommend follower dungeons over delves, as delves really aren’t dangerous for tanks. But having someplace meaningful to practice is good advice, I think.
I think they should add a harder difficulty follower dungeon option for teaching you more effectively. Add a mythic follower dungeon that scales your gear to a specific ilvl so it’s always the same challenge and intended for teaching purposes.
If it drops any gear at all it can just be normal or heroic dungeon gear, the main point of it though would be as a teaching tool.
the truth is you need to be able to read and understand information. if you refuse to do this or are illiterate its gg
Dis iz not de wey…
Seriously, I took a fresh guardian druid into delves and there was no risk of dying…except from being bored to death…
Are you not a tank but want to learn tanking?
Step 1: Create a tank of each class and try them out in a follower dungeon. You can go at your own pace and see if you like the playstyle.
Step 2: Once you find the tank you enjoy the most go to YouTube and search the following - “WoW (your tank class) tanking guide”. Every class has one because there are people out there who try to be helpful and show other players how to efficiently play that tanking class whether it’s in normal heroic or mythic.
Voilà you are now a tank!
WAILING caverns is serious b business.
Expecting characters to go to youtube rather than learn in game like in every other game is a bit insane
between your dumb simplification and 9000 forum posts something tells me you’ve never actually tanked a plus 10 or above and just get carried through keys throwing your lil ice spikes.
and yet that’s how we’ve been doing it for 20 years. I remember reading articles on thottbot to help me learn how to Druid.
Tanks a few while gearing up beat every mage tower in legion. Nothing to it.
learning to tanks is 1,000% learning the dungeon, the path, and what mobs do what and literally nothing else.
