Well, since the Jailer considers him a failure, we can assume Arthas, knowing how stubborn he was, retained controlled over his own actions and kept even the Jailer at bay.
You don’t consider someone a failure if they’re doing exactly what you want them to do after all.
Didn’t Illidan have his soldiers consume souls for fuel too? Like, not even counting the demon eating going on. I’m pretty sure he was screwing around with souls too. That’s kinda what fel does, after all. But TBC was a very long time ago and I could be misremembering.
I got the impression he considered Arthas a failure, because he wouldn’t listen. If it was because he died, why not just say that?
Why not Arthas was a failure because he died before he could complete his mission instead of just raving about him being a failed experiment, like Bolvar was
Sylvanas talking about everyone being pre-destined is also her shifting the blame onto outside forces. It’s a way to distance herself from what she’s done. Much like Arthas, she had plenty of chances to do the right thing but chose not to.
Yeah I think her first trip to super hell was used to trick her into serving the jailer. She probably wouldn’t have ended up at paradise afterlife at that point but not the Maw.
Also gotta love Varimathras telling us Syls an issue in Antorus
Alliance:
Varimathras: So, your Alliance still endures. Longer than I expected, though she has already planted the seeds of its downfall. She is patient, that one.
Varimathras: When your thrones run red with betrayal… when your holy places burn and the shattered mask hangs above your hearth… only then you will know. And it will be too late.
Varimathras: It matters not. You are blind to the true darkness closing in around you.
Horde:
Varimathras: So, she found me at last. Sent her underlings to finish the job.
Varimathras: Tell me, when she seized your throne of hides and bones, was your allegiance forced? No… I’d wager you surrendered it willingly… or were convinced you did.
Varimathras: It matters not. You are blind to the darkness in your midst.
Arthas is as iconic to Warcraft as Darth Vader is to star wars. Blizzards new lore about this stuff is basically the same as star wars saying “there was this guy from another star wars galaxy that controlls the dark side of the force”
I mean not talking vitiate/valkorion stuff here just normal original star wars.
Valkorion is more or less just a charming villain. Its like if they basically made the Remornia companion summon the ghost of Denathrius and have him adopt a more manipulative (without it being you know le ebin manipulator)
No. And judging by her conversations with them during the WC 3 campaign, she seems to be aware of their deceptive nature, to a degree…yet still allowed one to make Undercity home for a while.
Shrug I guess I’m just annoyed that everyone, even Blizzard, seems desperate to make her out to be this Evil 4D Grand Evil Master Mind.
