Hmm… there’s also a few frames of an open/unblocked Caverns of Time around 3:19 as well. Maybe we’ll be going inside during a later phase?
Good grief, we didn’t need MORE Paladin Hype the day before launch… Im rolling Paladin and I will be in a SEA of Paladins. Been maining Pally in Classic since 2019.
heck yeah paladin pal!
It could still be WIP items. I am questioning why Paladins would get Howling Blast and not something like Wake of Ashes which would be more in-line with Paladins. Granted, they made subtle hints about the possibility of new Legendary items, so Ashbringer could be fully realized like the original version.
Augmented Seals makes me think of Empowered Seals from WoD. The clunkiest talent of all time, but maybe they revised it or just made it so judging Seals doesn’t remove them or swapping seals allows the last one to linger for a few seconds to make Twisting a bit easier.
Where are you seeing that?
edit: nvm I see menace on wowhead, but the meta tooltip isn’t changed for me
Because they’re building a new spec for Pallies, just like they have for half of the classes in the game. This isn’t unique, it’s part of a trend. Also, Path of Arthas was datamined as a rune a couple weeks back, which reduces your holy healing by 50% and increases non-holy damage by 5%.
Paladin is getting an Antipaladin spec. He who shines the brightest, falls the farthest.
Those screenshots, like the one with Nora the Dev playing a Mage at Blizzcon announce, could be from their testing phases. Still nothing confirmed, agreed.
But it will be horde only, I get the feels. Sadly it will be a premium spec and only available in the cash shop.
That doesn’t exactly mean that Paladins will be Death Knights or Anti-Paladin. They give up healing for slightly more damage. Not to mention, it’s not a confirmed thing. These could be weeks old videos meant to be a red herring and showing off old builds.
Or Paladins will have the option to go full Death Knight. Who knows?

Same here. Its going to be an ocean of gold and pink.
I dismissed the Path of Arthas as maybe a gimick, when I saw it a couple weeks back. Howling Blast on top of Path of Arthas is too much to be a coincidence. And again, about half the classes in the game are just outright getting new specs. Shaman, Warlock, Rogue, Hunter, Mage, are all getting new specs. Is it that hard to believe that Paladin is also on that list?
All holy abilities are now blue*
Paladin would make more sense with the whole “Shockadin” thing. It’s been one of the most requested play styles for a long time. We know Priests getting a Smite Spec isn’t off the table.
Paladins going Death Knight is in line with the idea of the original design of the Death Knight, but feels like Blizzard would be wasting precious runes on making…2h Frost Paladins?
My only other thought is Howling Blast rune could be like Diablo 2’s cold aura that deals periodic Frost damage. I think that would make for more interesting gameplay. I would also love for the aura effect to be under your feet like in WC3, but that’s probably too much to ask for.
Imagine paladins getting deathgrip lol
Feeling a bit disappointed as I’m still not seeing a dwarf shaman in this version of the game. I may have to select another character.
You and me both. They showed dwarf and undead creation screens. No shaman or paladin respectively.
Not sure anyone has said this. but looks to be classic characters with a twist and thats it… not introducing any new characters at all.
The fact they are moving alliance and horde buffs to other classes pretty much confirmed they had no interest in putting in dwarf shaman or undead paladin even though it would probably have given them less of a headache in balancing.
Understood and thats a shame.
I don’t view Howling Blast alone as indicative of a specific Frost focus. It, along with Path of Arthas, is a Death Knight motif, not an ice magic motif. There are a lot of ties between Paladins and Death Knights in Warcraft and other fantasy IPs. The two are dichotomous, and in many RPG systems, exist operating from the same class, IE Pathfinder 2e with their Divine Champion class.
Inquisitor pally would be cool, sure. I just don’t view 1 frost spell as anything that indicates a trend. I do view 2 DK themed abilities as part of a trend. Even the name and mechanical effects of ‘Path of Arthas’ implies that you’re going to progressively fall to darkness, and replace your holy abilities with dark arts. This trope is seen all across fantasy media over the last 60 years, and I’m 100% down to see it in WoW as a playable character progression.
I’d love to see a rune that augments Consecrate into DnD and Exorcism into Death Coil.
Perhaps we can be hopeful that shaman gets a similar treatment in augmenting the class heavily into something akin to a totemic warrior that wields a 2h. Somethin like Cairne from W3 with shockwave and such
