New Shaman Tank Spec: Earth Warden

Just cause it was bad 20 years ago due to bad programming doesnt mean its cool and should be studied and put an effort into making it right. It is like what people said about melee huhters before they came out yet here we are

Shaman is my fav class of all time, I’ve leveled about four through out me playing wow and onto my 5th time with this vulpera, through thick and thin, good and bad its always felt amazing to play

honestly, people adding reasons not to add this: consider that the “problems” from 20 years ago would be addressed. we dont want the old bad stuff back, we want a rework mostly cause it makes total sense. cmon, you mean that a warrior with a shield makes a better tank than a guy that can make his fists turn into stone? or has literally an ethereal form? an earth golem to defend him? cmon…

Agreed, would love to see Shamans get 4th spec. Way better than adding another hollow, dumbed down class like DH.

you have a chance for a shaman tank spec about the same chance as blizzard adding housing…lol.

Bump for my shaman friends

I keep waiting for this big dream

There is an item added to the dragonflight raid that provides a very Shaman-themed mechanic that could easily be the shaman tank spec tanking mechanic. Please read below.

All-Totem of the Master

All- Totem of the Master

Equip: Enter an Elemental Stance. Successfully dodging or parrying an attack unleashes a powerful Elemental Counterattack to enemies in front of you as you assume the next stance.
This effect can only occur once every 30 seconds. (30s cooldown)

So imagine these elemental stances offer a different tanking bonus, and you are constantly cycling through them every 30 seconds or so.

Example:
Let’s say you start with Air

Air - Gives you bonus to Dodging. Counterattack does nature dmg and puts you into Fire Stance

Fire - Wraps you in flames, dealing fire damage every time you are struck. Counterattack does a big fire dmg burst and puts you into Earth Stance.

Earth - Wraps you in earth, reducing incoming damage by X%. Counterattack does nature dmg, and puts you into water stance.

Water - Increases incoming healing on you by an additional X%. Counterattack does a small AoE Heal on you and allies, and puts you back into air stance.

To get the ball rolling, you could also give the shaman tank baseline blessings based on Earth and Air aspects that increase dodge and parry, but this might not even be necessary if itemized correctly.

And if you really wanted to get fancy with it, depending on what stance you are in could also determine what abilities you have at your current disposal, similar to the Guild Wars Elementalist.

We’ve been asking for a shaman tank spec since Classic, we got in classic, but we wanted it in Retail.
Blizzard never listens to its community, like wtf does the manager that is in charge of shamans is doing.
Give us shaman tank spec, I am tired of sitting looking for tank to tank my M+ for hours, let me tank it myself so I can finally play the damn game!

been saying this for years… this would definitely be a keep my sub perk

So I guess shaman can get a tank spec when every other class gets one. Same logic. Mages don’t want to wait in queue so I guess they should tank as well.

This doesn’t necessarily make sense - Demon Hunters were, by far, the most requested thing since Burning Crusade. It took Blizz like 13 years before they could put them in the game because it needed to fit narratively. Fortunately enough, this expansion’s story is pretty much perfectly tailored for Shaman Tanks to emerge - not necessarily other classes/specs… except for maybe the also long-requested Tinker class.

How? Why tanks specifically?

Alternatively, current story could also do mage tanks with mages looking to specialize more into abjuration for protection after the fall of Dalaran.

People assume Evoker getting a spec added means they can add specs at any time when it was clearly more an example of them taking more time to finish the spec they didn’t get to before the class launched. They aren’t adding 4th specs, like ever.

If there were a Shaman Tank spec, it would be earth-based - We are diving deep into the Earth. The first person we met was Baelgrim, the leader of the Earthen Dwarves (who are made of earth and minerals). Baelgrim was a Shaman Tank. SoD is an experimental server where Shaman Tanks have been very successful, a testing grounds for to see what works and doesn’t work. Shamans were originally meant to function as tanks but that has sorta been lost in time. There are only 2x classes in the game with 4x starting nodes, Druids and Shamans - the unused starting node is ‘Astral Shift’, a defensive ability. So far this expac, Shamans have had the best kit for dungeons (as well as damage), maybe to bolster Shaman numbers to easily convert to the tank spec. Thrall has mysteriously swapped from his cloth garb to his heavy armor this expac. There was a Thrall murloc that was datamined - maybe to release alongside a Shaman tanking spec. The “20 Years of World of Warcraft” showed off memorable things they’ve put in the game since vanilla; at the very end was a conveniently placed Shaman for reasons? Blizz also stated that they’re happy with how the current Shaman trees are but they’re planning on heavy Shaman changes in a future patch?

Like, not all of this is story-based but like half of it is. But, the fact remains that Blizz is only going to release things if they make sense narratively. I’m not stating that they couldn’t make a case for Mage healers or whatever but certainly not for 4th specs for everyone in the game. It’s just really hard to ignore how perfect all of these details are as they relate directly towards Shamans Tanks and not really towards other specs in the game.

Its always bern a dps spec. It vould just do ok as an offtank until the my could get threat. It had no mitigation

If you go and look up the original description of Shamans, they were supposed to be the one true hybrid class, fitting any role but never being the best at any of them. I think most people that played Vanilla would argue that Shamans were healers above anything else at the time.

For raids we were basically forced to heal because our dps was horrible, we couldnt really tank and we gassed out of mana fast. At least until content was farmable, but then any meme spec could do it.

you know what else couldn’t tank in vanilla? prot paladins because they didn’t have a taunt - there were a multitude of specs that didn’t work properly back then.
