New ptr build 4/29

Categorically untrue; Baine featured in two (2) quests and zero (0) campaign chapters.

Also categorically untrue by virtue of the fact she’s still magically empowered lol

What are you talking about? It was a lot more than 2 quests. You rescue him twice in the Maw and that took me a lot more than 2 quests. That is also part of the campaign FYI. Not the Covenant campaign but the storyline campaign.

You are still not getting it. If she was close to useless then, with her power divided, she must be as useless as Baine now. Atleast that’s what Ethriel is trying to say.

Edit: just for the record, Tyrande showed up in 2 quests in 9.0. That’s all.

You rescue him in the intro chapter, which is not part of the Covenant Campaign.

After that, you only see him once during a Venari quest, and then again when you rescue him (where, unlike Thrall and Jaina, he doesn’t do anything to help finish off the captor). After that, zero. Not a motivation for any other quest, no voice acting side role, nothing. Nothing in 9.0, and nothing in 9.1. Baine is on the same level as Taelia and Calia in terms of narrative relevancy.

Whereas Tyrande is the motivation for three 9.0 Ardenweald chapters, and present in two of those.

She literally protects Ardenweald from Sylvanas singlehandedly at full Night Warrior in 9.1

Im not talking about the “covenant” campaign. Im talking about the main damn storyline.

She is present only in 2 quests.
She doesn’t do anything useful.
It’s only in 9.1 where she is useful. That’s what we were talking about, remember?

Good. She has 1 use. Now divide that by 4.

Still more than what Baine has done for the past year.

Well, Baine didn’t claim vengeance on Sylvanas at any cost, and seek great power to achieve it.

I am not saying he doesn’t need to be represented better though. Or even replaced by Hamuul or someone.

You realized that now?

Usually the pivots occur between expansions, or years down the line, where the flailing or missteps are more discrete.

This is wild flailing one patch into an expansion.

Ethriel was comparing Tyrande’s power level to Baine. There’s no reason to believe that a 10k year old multiclassing chosen prophet is on the level of the cow boy woobie, even before taking into account her supposed godly powerup that she can “only” partially keep.

Well, one could think so. But we have revelations like “Velen maybe blindly following the Light realised something [after the Xe’ra story]”, or Tyrande treatment with “patience”. So, if for the narrative someone will be used as a tool - it will be done.
[meant: if for the narrative someone is convenient to be used as a tool - it will be done]

Those scenes kind of take me out of the moments that I want to be immersed in because of how the characters facial expressions (?) and mouth movements tend to be so bad. I don’t want to kick the people that work on the models and we all can see what they’re trying to do, but it just looks bad. Now, there are times when it is okay, but that’s only when you can’t see someone’s face or mouth at all (sometimes with the jailer) or when no one is really saying too much of anything. So, basically it works fine when the voice actors are doing the absolute bare minimum during a scene like saying “look out” and that’s it.

Certainly.

But as of right now Tyrande:

  • entered the Maw by herself yolo
  • helped save many Night Elf souls basically solo
  • defended Ardenweald from Sylvanas also solo
  • is saved from the full might of the Night Warrior by sharing the power (not removing it) among three former Night Warriors: an assassin of the House of Eyes in Maldraxxus, the Harvester of Wrath of Revendreth, and a druid in Ardenweald.

Baine however:

  • got discarded by Zovaal for being useless
  • got recaptured by one (1) Mawsworn Kyrian
  • did not participate in his liberation (unlike Jaina, unlike Thrall)
  • has sat down sad in Oribos for six months

So we’re just ignoring the dead Mawsworn Kyrians scattered around the area where he’s recaptured, then?

Oh excuse me, four (4) Mawsworn Kyrians, where he defeated three (3)

And it’s well after we left him and the others behind at the start, too.

Jaina, Thrall and Anduin seemingly got scooped back up right away and hauled off to Torghast, while Baine spent the whole time we were leveling in the other zones fighting his way around the Maw, and only finally got recaptured right after we came back.

Suggesting that he apparently raised enough of a ruckus in our absence to change the Jailer’s mind and convince him Baine really mwas worth bringing into Torghast.

Who cares about power when impact is all that matters, and Blizzard’s power levels don’t even translate into proportional impacts?

Not saying that tauren don’t need a power up honestly, because right now they are pathetic on all fronts.

That is a really good point and makes me wonder how many Mawsworn he killed to make the Jailer change his mind.

My personal gripe with Baine is that he seems to have been treated as an abuse barometer to show when other people are good or bad, and he’s been like that for so long that it’d seem weird and out-of-character if Blizzard DID try to make him strong. It’s just…not Baine at that point. Which is kinda sad to say, but meh.

Then again I have the hypocritical stances of 1) preferring that outrageous feats in general were toned down while also feeling that 2) I’d want tauren to be shown as the physically strongest playable race in the game, on account of them being minotaurs and all. Not in a “violent uncontrollable brute” way but a little more giant in “gentle giant,” if that makes sense. I can’t really reconcile those two feelings in my head.

You’re right that impact matters more than implied power, though. It just doesn’t sound like Tyrande’s character struggling with that, at least from my point of view.

God, this bothers me more than it should. Like, within the span of 3 patches they’ve told us repeatedly that this guy is the Heart and Best of the Horde (several times) … then had him discarded as so worthless we had to buy him back in the Beta. You’re telling me that even with that uber classic catalyst for personal reflection and growth, the main rep of the single most spirit worshipping race in the entire game … can’t get one story arc of his own? He’s really just there as an accessory for Anduin? The pretty boy-king who does have intrinsic worth?

Or it could be that those souls were taken by either the Val’kyr or the Jailers Mawsworn (or even the Forsworn) after Frostmourne was shattered. I still like to imagine that Uther was the exception, not the rule.

Honestly before the Bastion afterlives cinematic, my headcanon was that Arthas visited Uther’s Tomb before or after the 2nd battle of Lights Hope and took his soul.
