Can these pets be used in over and pvp? Or are they something totally different?
Welcome! Battle pets can be used in PetPVP, battling another player’s team of pets, but not in traditional PVP.
One of the more common “uses” is PVE content - battling NPC pet teams and completing PVE challenges.

Not entirely sure what you were asking. Unlike Hunter Pets, Companion Pets cannot help you fight against players or mobs. Can only battle other pets.
If they die in a pet battle, various ways to heal them back to life, you never lose them.
