I doubt anybody sensible would assert that. In this era, specifically racist corporations are vanishingly rare, but institutionalized racism remains nonetheless. Usually it takes the form of a few individuals harassing coworkers under a screen of “just kidding!” the coworkers being afraid to complain for fear of being branded “not a team players,” and management not doing anything about it because it’s a lot of work and expense for what they don’t see as a big deal.
Well I said that because Lissarra seemed to be implying that… I’m not sure. Everyone at Blizzard is a racist?
As someone with some background in the psychological effects he’s saying he suffered, I’ve also never heard of people being affected the way he’s saying he was, by that type of behavior. Not saying it’s not possible, I’m just saying someone claiming to have gone literally insane and then trying to take legal action kind of… yeah.
That, paired with not being able to find any actual evidence of anything anywhere, is making me approach this with caution, regarding my opinion of it. If it happened, it’s terrible, and I would hope he does get justice. It’s just kind of a messy story, with messier evidence.
The whole problem is it’s not as simple as taking a side. Representation is good, unequivocally, but does not excuse failures in other areas. The two don’t cancel each other out, despite the natural inclination we have as humans to try to weigh good and bad and come up with an overall “score” for the object of the discussion, in this case Blizzard Entertainment. Those are separate issues which need to be examined on their own merits, and the link between them is yet a third one.
I got an iffy vibe from Lissara’s post, too, but that doesn’t invalidate this developer’s experience. Even if she was nakedly trying to pooh-pooh the very idea of LGBT+ representation, it wouldn’t.
I’d be careful judging someone else’s experience remotely. There’s nothing (at the moment) to support this guy’s story aside from the story itself, but said story wasn’t (at least to me) hard to believe. It was a pretty textbook description of what long-term harassment can do to a person.
We were talking about a dude being confirmed canonically gay in OW, and then someone came in, posted a second-hand story about racism in Hearthstone, and I’m not sure what I’m supposed to take away from that.
I guess is my point.
Edit: And it’s really difficult to convey that without sounding insensitive myself. But I genuinely like… Does this mean Lissarra wants us to be mad about S76 being gay? Or not send Blizzard cookies over it? Which nobody was doing anyway? I don’t totally understand where this is going.
Yeah, that goes back to what I was saying. There’s an implied agenda in the fact that someone would choose to derail this topic with that. I don’t think any of us missed the implication, there.
It doesn’t change the fact that this story was terrible and I am glad it was brought to my attention, even if the motive for doing so was disingenuous.
Right. I noticed he listed three people in his opening: Trevor Housten, Drew Higbee, and Gemma Barreda-Mirkovi. I can find information on the first two, but not Gemma, beyond a singular site crediting her to Overwatch and Starcraft esports.
Which, while it doesn’t delegitimize anything he says in and of itself - while you’d think someone involved in esports would have social media accounts, at least, it’s not necessarily a requirement - we’re not exactly strangers to bigots making bad-faith complaints and/or sockpuppeting in order to get back at “progressive” people.
Don’t get me wrong, I want this guy’s lawsuit to succeed if he has a legitimate grievance, but man do I really not want to do the whole James Gunn thing over again.
I breeze through any number of names and character icons on these forums and I can’t recall a single one, except of course, for the monk in monk’s garb.
To me, you’re like… THE monk here. No big deal, and the consistency of your outfit certainly distinguishes you in addition to your participation.
So I’ve come to ask you a question, and I’m in no rush so if you hadn’t considered this before, I don’t mind a wait or anything (idk if that sounds weird. people are always apologizing and sh*t if they dont call or text me back right away IRL and i dont get it lol).
If Zenrao walked into the Transmog’s, and back out after 7.5 hours with an entirely new look, for whatever reason, but with the same sense of I AM ZENRAO AND THIS IS MY ZENRAO SUIT (that’s your inner monologue. it’s cannon.)

What would that transmog be?
A vague discription of your own tastes, wowhead links, or no answer because who am I to question your fashion authority. Any sort of insight here would great.
Thank you for your time. I didn’t read the topic but I’m sure it’s interesting.
EDIT: Topic is Overwatch. I don’t play it so idc. Glad you posted here though so I could catch you!
Also, I just though of a fun writing challenge: lore-based void elf mistweaver backstory. I think the devil would be in the character’s motivations. Ty for the idea!
