New Frost/Spellslinger Changes - Bring Next Reset Not .5

  • Spellslinger
    • New Talent: Signature Spell – Choice node with Shifting Shards.

      • Arcane: When Magi’s Spark explodes, you conjure 6 Arcane Splinters.

      • Frost: Consuming Winter’s Chill with Glacial Spike conjures 2 additional Frost Splinters.

    • Arcane

      • Splinterstorm now has a 5% chance to generate Clearcasting.
    • Frost

      • Splinterstorm no longer applies Winter’s Chill.

      • Splinterstorm now has a 5% chance to grant Brain Freeze.

These changes are fantastic; however, we should not need to wait until the .5 patch for these. It will greatly affect the ability to progress in raid as frost having to wait until mid patch for core gameplay changes.

Please institute these for either heroic or mythic reset and aura buff frost around their impact. This would do wonders for the spec and its hero talents but that impact is severely reduced if we have to wait until the .5 patch. Put these into the game now and the frost community would greatly appreciate it.

So what are your recommended steps? Should they just skip the PTR phase and deploy all of the changes immediately?

Should they create a release just for the frost mage changes and cut that right away, and then everything else waits for the .5 release?

I think if you provide some details maybe the development and release management teams would adopt your strategy, without question.

Recommended steps would be to implement the changes that dont require much testing or impact many other areas. For these frost changes, it’s a low hanging fruit. Remove WC from SS removes a degenerate gameplay that if you wait this long will persist until the .5 patch.

All removing it will do is take away that degenerate gameplay and nerf SS frost’s damage output. From then you can simply aura buff frost (since Frostfire needs it too, but has been harder to buff because any buffs to frosts core kit would have buffed SS) to equalize FF and SS.

Waiting to make this change is bad because it will feel like whiplash by the time it comes around. People will have gotten used to SS’s ice lance spam gameplay and that will be gutted after 1-2 months of playing it. Better to do this now to put yourself in a better position to tune both of Frost’s hero specs in parallel, and eliminate the unintended gameplay before it has a chance to get solidified into raid/m+.

Id rather they take their time and consider fixes for the other issues that still plague the spec rather then rush out one because people are crying over not getting to cast GS as much as they want, trying to make a statement seem as if every frost mage would enjoy it is nonsensical.

This does not address the fact that Ray of Frost is still worthless in Veins, It does not change the fact that Deaths chill is still worthless in Veins. Furthermore. Just switching it and trying to net buff the spec to compensate to then have to rework the spec later anyways again still mean you will have to change rotations. In the end its far too late for them to fix the spec in a fast time frame. And would rather a more thought out process be taken over a rushed one.

No, I would rather my arcane rotation not change 4 days before raid releases. Not to mention it will need my splinter generation as arcane.

Not referring to arcane here.

Worth noting though and I know it’s hard to think through this lens now ~ it will feel like much more whiplash to learn a new rotation mid season/prog/m+ then before it releases
