I am in a discord with 219 people that were looking forward to playing fresh PvE. We all know that PvP servers just become faction dominated. Why sabotage the fresh experience?
If it had been a single pve instead of a single pvp, the pvp players would still have played there. They’d flag themselves. But most pve players simply won’t play on a pvp realm. So they’ll just…not play Wrath. I know a lot of people who were only going to play because of a Fresh option. But not if it’s only pvp.
Although I am pretty confident that this does in fact mean EXACTLY ONE new fresh start realm, I find it interesting that it isn’t quite worded that way. It technically allows for an additional announcement, like an open-ended movie plot. I am not trying to tease anyone, it’s just curiously worded. No offense intended, Kaivax, great job!
Tell that to those playing on the low end of the imbalance? They are PVP servers. It’s a ruleset, which means you don’t have the ability to toggle PVP off in contested areas.
They are playing on PVP servers. You can get into philosophical debates about what that means until the cows come home, but as a technical person, I go by the technical definition.
Regardless, as I’ve stated, yeah it sucks for people who were looking forward to Normal Fresh servers that there doesn’t seem to be one. I would be disappointed if there was only 1 Normal Fresh server, but I would still play it, because for me Fresh is more important than the PVP server ruleset.
If that weren’t the case though, I would play on an established PVP server. That’s an option, just as playing on an established Normal server is an option.
Just as a wager for the future, I think this signals two things:
Acti-Blizzard is definitely all in on as few large servers as possible as a general philosophy. If you were holding out on a small server expecting some love, it seems pretty clear it’s not coming.
Particularly the lack of a PVE option seems a sign the odds of a ‘Cata Classic’ have shifted from ‘we definitely have the demand to keep this rolling!’ to ‘subscription numbers to justify the cost are looking iffy.’
i keep looking at servers like Earthfury-USEast and Mograine-EU on ironforge.pro and I’m confused on the population number justification using just warcraft logs and pvp leaderboard info. like… it looks like there is barely a population on these small servers.
