New Essence Changes Are Great But What About New Players?

Why does content age matter at all to someone who’s never played it? The logic on presentation here is that old == garbage regardless of who’s playing it which makes no sense.

Relaxing things like flight requirements as the xpac wears on makes some sense, but carving out entire chunks of the game every patch or so I can’t wrap my head around.

False. The game has been seasonal since wrath. It’s the design paradigm they’ve chosen.

it’s an mmo.

players are funneled into the new zones.

those zones are ghost towns with nothing but multiboxers. the logic is sound if you take it in context of what it was said.

if you just look for parts of posts to pick apart and apply whatever you think they are saying to, yea maybe logic might be shakey

But everything leading up to the current zone is part of the funnel… remove that and there isn’t a funnel any more because there’s no solo/personal progression that leads into “current” content. You’d be ready to go just by rolling a new character, which is profoundly weird in a game that at least once had major RPG components.

If they’re going to turn WoW into Diablo or whatever that’s fine (as questionable of a decision that may be), but it’d have to be done along with an xpac release and not partway through the cycle of an ongoing xpac.

a new player right now is going through 4 loading screens at least as they go across the world completeing their daily tasks to catch up.

this is not an experience i think a new player should have to go through, especially without flight.

idk what you think is being said about diablo here. BFA is uniquely unfriendly to new players because of the many systems that contribute to player power.

if someone wants to experience nazjtar they can, but in the interest of the game’s health and the enjoyment for the average new player, letting them buy 8.2 essences with the currency as they gain it doing 8.3 content is a good idea.

I always feel like there are ulterior motives for when people labor for the “new player”.

Ok, that’s more reasonable. Reducing the number of and de-emphasizing systems is absolutely needed, but I’m not expecting that in a patch. That seems more of an xpac-level bit of game design (at least if you want to avoid dev time sink fiascos like we had with trying to patch up the azerite system in 8.1/8.2). Similarly, earning old essences with current currency isn’t a bad idea. What’s been setting people off more than anything is the suggestion of just giving it all to new players/characters.

yea, get more raiders at end game.

a heinous crime

I was going more for how people ask for things because of the “new player” but its really something they want for themselves.

Right if we’re early in the expac. But we’re already past that point and the expac is on it’s last legs and this is the part where we just wait for Shadowlands. Does it really matter at this point?

Because they never did it in the first place.

That sums up the bitter “we did the grind so the rest of you have to” attitude.

That grind is something nobody has to go through again.

I don’t care, particularly. I’d prefer essences never existed in the first place. We should be thankful we got any type of boost at all. It’s the end of the expansion. It’s the same reason why new players have to do Pathfinder.

They got one from me.

Its nothing hard and if they can’t even put up with it then just too bad , tired of stuff being handed out like its candy , be it gear , gold and now even essences ?

Whats next ? Free pathfinder cause its also in outdated content ? Free weekly m+10 chest for new player cause we’re all doing 10-15-20s by now ? Why not have character created with everything so they dont need to grind anything ?

There’s other game genre out there to satisfy your needs , stop ruining mmorpgs with instant gratification just because its older content or the next expansion is coming !

Yeah, how dare new players have to do at least the same amount of work that I had to?

When I started WOW I knew nothing about it. I just played like any other game.

It’s the issue of our times. I have a few friends who’ve basically been quit since WoD, every once in awhile they’ll hear about Void Elves or something else that might draw them back, then they see what they have to do and just . . . don’t come back.

My problem with these essences is that I spread myself so thin between alts this expansion I only acquired a single rank 3. Good thing I’ve mentally moved on from this expansion, essences, neck, cloak, corruption, all rentals.

I’ll be farming up pets and mogs in the meantime, maybe some LFR but even since I did all my visions and I don’t suck at them I don’t really feel like grinding the currency for more. Feels like a treadmill tbh, and one that’ll have run its course in a few more months.

Here’s hoping Shadowlands is better. I little more alt-friendly wouldn’t hurt at the very least.

Ahhhhh! Looks like an new version of the old “Asking for a Friend” gambit!
Can’t get something free so lets try asking for it by saying you’re asking for a friend who won’t return unless he/she gets them for free.
