That’s exactly what I thought as well, full bearded Night Elf DH’s will look pretty much like one Satyr.
I loved these new Night Elf customizations , now Night Elves can finally look like proper Night Elves, the only thing missing is the fix for the male torso and of course a new city.
From my knowledge the article doesn’t say the high elves who left Quel’thas for not wanting to siphon magic were the same high elves that joined the Alliance. While I wouldn’t say it is impossible I also wouldn’t say that it is canon until we see actual evidence of this in game.
Many High elves who were not exiled, but remained with the Alliance have also expressed disapproval with siphoning magic from creatures as well, so I remain skeptical that this article is referring to the Quel’lithien elves themselves, and not just scattered remnants of High elven refugees around Azeroth.
It’s as ambiguous about that as it is about the number of elves remaining.
It’s not really important. Whether it’s an elf from quel’lithien lodge or just a High Elf wayfarer it’s a High Elf. They could be from any origin and they’re similar enough it doesn’t matter.
I think what made the Quel’lithien elves distinct for me was their choice to remain independent despite their exile. That as a portion of the elves who did return to Quel’thalas, they continued to uphold those beliefs by living in isolation instead of integrating into the Alliance.
But I also wouldn’t be surprised if any survivors did decide to join after the lodge’s ruin, as they clearly had very little love for Lor’themar.
I do not believe it was ever specified that the Highborne Mages were solely trainers. They joined the Night Elves and live in Darnassus and they are effectively the same race. “Highborne” refers to class status. Whereas Nightborne are a different race as they have been mutated by the Nightwell.
Having a quick glance in Chronicles, I only see this segment:
"Night elf culture and traditions were also in upheaval. The Highborne Shen’dralar sorcerers from Dire Maul had settled in Darnassus along with the Gilneans. Many night elves were wary of their guests. Both sets of newcomers dredged up painful memories from the past. The Highborne in particular were treated with suspicion and open hostility. During the War of the Ancients, their obsession with arcane magic had brought the Leigon to Azeroth. That was not a sin easily forgotten or forgiven, even after ten thousand years.
Tyrande Whisperwind did her best to ease her people’s fears and convince them of the necessity for having more allies. The night elves were in a fragile state, and with the Horde on a warpath, they needed help wherever they could find it. Now was not the time for isolation; it was the time for making new friends and reaffirming the night elves’ commitment to the Alliance."
If you have anything that specifically states that playable Night Elves mages are newly trained Night Elves that were not part of Eldre’thalas, I would be most interested.
