Yes, but this was before the attack on Quel’thalas, when he decided to remain with the Alliance and ignore the edicts to return home. Kael’thas described many of these choices, and behaviors as causes for why he felt like an outsider in his own home, many of which also apply to the 10% that remained as well.
Ironically Kael’thas is far similar to Alliance high elves than he is to the very race he’s the lord of.
And I’ve always been a supporter of this, and always encouraged players to come up with suggestions that perpetuated these cultural disparities instead of themes that feel more appropriate on the Blood elves. Although occasionally I do stumble upon people who feel the name High elf entitles them to these themes over blood elves, which has always been a point of contention for me.
But we really don’t know if these individuals are the same as the ones from Quel’lithien, and considering that any remaining High elves from that lodge are still considered independent leaves me skeptical as that choice always felt like it was deliberately made.
Unfortunately that Encyclopedia entry is rather vague as to which High elves they’re referring to. It could have been the Allerian High elves, or even individuals scattered over Azeroth who weren’t initially aware that Quel’thalas was attacked, or that a splintering between the elves had even occurred. While I don’t think it’s impossible, I would really prefer it if we had an example of one who we knew for-a-fact joined the Alliance after the lodge’s ruin to be sure.
I have run into this many times, so I’m pretty sure some people are mistaken. The next time it happens I’ll be sure to bookmark the page so you can see for yourself.
To clarify I’m not suggesting that this misconception makes up the majority of the high elf request, or pro-community, merely that it is confusion that I find myself having to clarify to players often. Whether it be here on the forums, on youtube, etc.
I think it typically involved themes revolving the Farstriders like tattoos, braids, and other ranger-style options that hearken to their past as rangers. It was strange seeing players bombard those threads claiming that because “High elves” had those options in Warcraft, the Blood elves had no right to ask for them.
The blue eyes part bothered me because the huge argument was always that the visual similarity with Blood elves didn’t matter because the cultural disparity between them and the Alliance high elves justified their inclusion. And Blue eyes just felt like a natural option because it represented the arcane, which most Alliance High elves avoided associating themselves with.
