This is where the problem lies ultimately.
See, FF14 does allow every class to be relevant, but it does this through strict homogenization and even giving roles the exact same party abilities, through Role abilities.
It leads to better balance, but also less unique class design.
Imagine a perfectly balanced game, Street Fighter for example. There are 2 characters, Ken and Ryu. And they’re both exactly the same.
The game is perfectly balanced, but also about as interesting as Cabbage.
I would much rather WoW focus on exciting classes inspired by The RTS and WoW lore, rather than striving for boring, sterile balance.
Producers didn’t come up with conduit energy. As much as I’m sure Activision contributed to the downfall of Blizzard - the actual ideas like conduit energy or anything gameplay, grinds and mechanics were all born at Blizzard.
I’m also certain there are people there who do care, but they have no influence over creative direction, so it’s moot.
WoW has a single “Warrior” class, meanwhile other MMOs like Black Desert have like 10-20 different variants on what more the “Warrior” class is or could be
Samurai is outside the box? Thats a pretty standard type of class. Next class needs to tank, Melee DPS and RDPS. I know you got more imagination than Samurai kicking around in that head of yours. Go nuts. Really go outside the box.
A Chaos Bringer.
Mail Wearing. Tank, RDPS, MDPS. Int Main Stat.
Wields a 1handed melee. No offhand or Shield. For Tank and MDPS
The offhand is the casting hand. RDPS Uses Staves or MH/OH like normal casters.
The spells are chaos magic based. Think a cross between Fire Mage Spells and Shadow Priest look.
Melee attacks and spell casts are independent from each other. So while you are casting spells with your offhand, you can still use Melee abilities.
Tanks
Offhand Will Cast DmG shields/dmg reduction spells. Aggro generating abilities and debuffs to the enemy and buffs to the weapon. Taking DMG Builds Chaos energy to cast spells similar to Rage. Certain Melee Attacks Also build Chaos Energy.
MDPS Will play similar.
The spells will be To deal DMG and Debuff. MH Attacks build Chaos Energy. Spells Use it. While using Chaos Energy you Build up a Chaos Aura. Once you build up enough the Aura you can channel the Pent up Energy, Drastically Empowering your Melee Abilities. While Empowered with Chaos Aura, you cannot cast spells as it is channeling.
The RDPS is a similar playstyle, but obviously Different.
Each Hand Casts a Different Type of Spell independently from the other. IE you can cast 2 different spells at the same time. Cast times for the spells will accommodate for being able to cast 2 at the same time. One Hand Casts Shadow Flame Spells, The other Casts Fel/Void Spells.
The goal is to have them alternate how they hit. Successfully alternating builds up Chaos Energy. At any level of chaos energy you can cast Chaos Infusion. The spell would have a 10 or 20 sec CD. You cast a bolt using both hands, and both types of Magic activating Chaotic Rage. This Swaps you to a new bar. All the spells on the new bar, Cost Chaos Energy. These spells also are cast using both hands and utilize both magics, for added dmg.
cuz the game is like 20 years old and most players are absolutely sick and bored of all the classes that they have already played for years. The most important thing in a game is the gameplay and when people get bored or burntout of the gameplay there’s nothing left for it.
There are a lot of classes that can, and should be added to WoW. Or, at the very least, new specs. Unfortunately, you’ll likely not find much support in these forums. Ironically, when it comes to talk of new classes, some WoW forum posters are unadventurous, uncreative, and unwilling to even discuss new (to WoW) concepts.
I don’t think current Blizzard can pull off a full Samurai class. With a little research, they could make Samurai a nice spec for Warriors.
Pirates could be a class all their own (I’m sure Rogues would appreciate getting their classic Combat spec back). Corsair - Melee / CC, Blackguard - Ranged / AoEs, Sea Sage - Healer
Bards, an actual Wizard class, Inquisitors, Loremasters, Psychics, etc. There are plenty of class options out there that can easily be fit for WoW, if they’d stop with the competitive angle they’re trying for these days.
Said the Demon Hunter. Paladins and Warlocks called, they said to tell you that every class in WoW called you guys annoying, redundant thieves with ADHD…aaaaaand you’re already gliding away. FotM classes =/= “exciting”, just the newest, often most broken, spec.
FFXIV does have a set of Role abilities that crossover for every class that plays that role. They did it specifically to make sure people playing that role…actually PLAY the role. The class and jobs can then focus on imaginative class fantasy abilities in the mid and late game.
If you look at it ,people would refer it to a melee class but what if the sword was something else other than a melee weapon would this change the spec than?
IDK i feel like they did a greet job at making every class feel different and unique in their own way to be honest. Some classes sharing a similar buff doesn’t bother me nearly as much as not even being allowed to play a class at all because it was balanced so poorly.
It gives my MASSIVE amounts of comfort knowing that a single patch isn’t going to break my class in half and nearly force me to reroll
I would love to see a “Associate” class; thematically they are associated with the cartels and have many gadgets provided by the cartel; these can be used either to augment their allies (heals…or even the dreaded SUPPORT role that WoW needs I feel) and DPS.
I could see for races that pretty much anything but draenei/taurens
I have played this game through buffs, nerfs, ups and downs, since Pandaria and I’ve never felt forced to reroll. The only Major reroll I’ve done is entirely because I wanted something new, a different fantasy provided by a different class.
Unfortunately many people do feel different about such things.
Many people do feel the need to swap specs or even classes when things get really bad. This has a good chunk to do with the community as well sadly as a single class underperforming can lead to a person missing out on content or simply making it much hard to experience content.
