New Cinematic Arator - Son of Two Worlds

Arator has a new cinematic Son of Two Worlds. What do you guys think?

Yet again the best part were the undead. Arthas looking like an absolute baller and Sylvanas in banshee mode were amazing. Really captured the horror of an unending tide of undead monsters killing everything mercilessly.

Give me more Scourge propaganda, Blizzard. I’ll poison the damn grains myself if I have to.

It honestly improved my opinion of Arathor., A bit

I don’t know why but characters’ lips looks weird in some scenes. Still a good movie, but I prefer the Liadrin one.

Confirmation of Arator’s raising:

  • childhood in Stormwind,
  • early adolescence in Dalaran,
  • Veressa and teenage Arator living in Quel’thalas up until TBC (this is a retcon somewhat given timeline),
  • moved back to Stormwind (joining the Alliance) up until Legion
  • Novel confirms sometime after Legion he moved back to Quel’thalas I guess

This cinematic centers what was my main worry for the character: the idea that they would center his “mixed heritage” on “two cosmic power ranger parents” (unrelatable) instead of being of mixed race/ethnicity (this is relatable)

“I am not ‘half’ anything” is 100% important

He maybe the most interesting Windrunner by the end of the expansion. He doesn’t see himself as “half this and half that.” He’s both and none, he walks his own path as his own person. I thought Arator really being built up as the next generation of heroes. Cant wait to see what that means longterm.

Can someone explain to me why Liadrin reacted so harshly to Arathor’s request? I thought she was going to say some clichĂ© like “you are not ready,” but she openly admitted she didn’t see him as a real elf. She unknowingly (or not?) isolated him from his mother’s side now I know why he’s closer to his father/human identity.

This character’s just not working for me. His little monologue at the end was unbearably corny.

Liadrin in the previous cinematic before she became a true Paladin could not use the Light and had become soured when she called upon it and could not save her father. So Liadrin wanted to keep Arator safe by denying him the sacrament of becoming a Blood Knight Paladin like she became. Forcing Arator to search for his father’s people to learn how to become a Paladin.

Arator at no point in his life doesn’t look 30.

I’m fed up with the Windrunners

I don’t think that’s the case. He says here that he and Vereesa traveled to Stormwind to see the statues, as in they weren’t already there.

Their family living in Quel’Thalas is a bit odd what with Rhonin and all, but it’s not unworkable. It’s not like QT was hostile territory for him. Just kinda weird.

I wish his big brother relationship with the twins was in this but got no real complaints otherwise.

Well this now confirms his last name is Windrunner. Did Turaylon just not have a last name due to being an oprhan?

I think that was due to the fact that at that time the blood knights were siphoning light energy from a naaru and felt shame about it. Perhaps she could not call upon the light on her own due to her crisis of faith and didn’t know how to impart faith in the light on to Arator. It makes sense and kind of nudges him to learn it from traditional paladins.

But then the faction war broke out.

So, even though there was a war, he could move around freely, even though he was on the side of the Alliance

I really liked both it and the Liadrin one - gotta say as well, working my way through the Blood Elf lore in a (mostly) release order - it’s nice to get some definitive confirmation regarding Silvermoon’s colors before and after the Scourge, though not sure if that’s newer or just something I missed along the way.

Felt like depictions kept flipping between red and blue for a good while, with the Sunwell trilogy showing Dath’Remar founding a red-colored Silvermoon and the Ghostlands being filled with destroyed buildings with red colors instead of blue.

We got to see Arator, Alleria, and Turalyon hug. And Vereesa in non-combat role, which I do like seeing in cinematics since the game is so combat-focused. 10/10, this is what I need from their story.

I also like the teeny little lore bit of Vereesa saying she did Alleria’s warpaint - I like how it ties into the family dynamic, is a callback to Alleria’s original character design, and suggests the elves/rangers have more a tradition of tattoos or other body paint than humans/paladins. I lke those little wordbuilding bits.

My only other takeaway is that the animation only reinforces how much I hate his new hairstyle, as even his animated TBC ponytail looked so much better.

Depending on the time period it could either be Liadrin still not having faith in the light due to what happened or it was while she was draining M’uru in order use the light. If it was the latter then maybe Liadrin did not Arator to do the same.

Either way I suspect it was more to do with Liadrins internal struggles, either lack of faith or shame more so than, “get away from me you filthy half-elf”.

Animation was cool.

I do hope Midnight plays up the connection Vareesa had and still has with Arator, and her role in mothering him in Alleria’s absence.

Seeing as how he was close, personal friends with both Lor’themar and Lady Liadrin it’s not unreasonable to think he would be allowed to live there. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if, during the height of the hostilities, he may have had handlers or something similar.

Bit of both IMO. Arator reading bigotry into her comment makes sense, but we the viewers, who reacquainted ourselves with her story last week, can read something else into her refusal while she’s wandering around a Silvermoon under reconstruction with fel eyes and a bad attitude.
