New BM Hunter - Advice on PvE Macros plz

Huh. I always just used a space as a title when I didn’t want to name it.

And no need for a cancel aura macro. Hit it once turtle on, hit it a 2nd time (after the gcd) turtle off. Been like this for all defensive cds (iceblock, dispersion) for a while.

A lot of people have suggested weakauras for tracking frenzy and beast cleave and such. It certainly is the most popular but most prebuilt auras have was more info than I care about. If you want a simple tracker you can easily set to your preferences, try TellMeWhen.

Macro Cancel Aura to Barbed shot.
Saves clicking Turtle for a second time especially if you have high latency reduces failed casts.

Something that’s been found in the files for the 9.1.5 PTR is a new string that points towards mouseover casting becoming a base function within the game, no longer requiring you to add [@mouseover] into specific macros etc. Basically, if I’ve understood this correctly, once toggled on, you will be able to cast spells on mouseover targets by default.

Global Strings (161)

  • NEW TOOLTIP_MOUSEOVER_CASTING
Once enabled, mousing over a unit frame and casting a spell will cast it directly on that unit without having it targeted.

If I got this wrong, feel free to correct me.

This thread is amazing. It should be stickied. I am brand new as well and this thread totally changed my gameplay, and more importantly, the fun factor!

Can you share your macro?

I use a macro to cast a tar trap at my feet. Can I modify it to drop one at my (or pet’s) selected target if I hold shift? Ideally, it should do nothing if I hit shift and I (or pet) have no current bad guy selected. My efforts failed as it just defaults to manual target mode. if this works I would add this to my wild spirits and my flare macros.

edit: I found some old posts that say this is not possible … have things changed?

No things haven’t changed.

You have 3 options with ground targeting abilities, like tar trap, freeze trap
/cast Tar Trap – 1 click to get targeting reticule, 2nd click casts
/cast [@player] Tar Trap – 1 click casts the ability centered on the player
/cast [@cursor] Tar Trap – 1 click casts the ability centered on where your mouse cursor is touching the ground . If you are trying to hit a specific enemy aim at its feet and not at its body otherwise the ability will land behind the enemy since that’s the ground your mouse cursor would be touching if the enemy wasn’t there.

There are no other options for ground targeting abilities.

For Unit Targeting abilities you can do things like, @focus, and @pet, @pettarget
/cast [mod,@pettarget,harm,nodead][]Cobra Shot
If you hold down a modifier key (ctrl, alt, shift – if they aren’t keybound to something) it casts cobra shot at whatever your pet is attacking. But if the pet’s target is dead or isn’t an enemy or doesn’t exist, or you’re not holding down a modifier key, the empty brackets [] makes Cobra Shot cast normally at your target.

Hit me up in-game.

I have a pamphlet with next-level macros specifically for BM Hunters (pretty much all of them) as well as an explanatory tutorial about how they all work.

Macro chaining, growl control, misdirection control, everything you’ll need to avoid being a Huntard in PVE.
