This is what I look for, and have the mouseover ready. I mash the dispell mouseover, and if it is on cd, I mash the holy shock mouseover and then spam flash of light.
The double calif pack? You mean the one that I did earlier tonight on a 19 and had no problems with even without lust? All you need to do is have defensive cooldowns running for when the two are casting their AoE and shazam, problem solved. It only kills you if you are either missing HP, incredibly undergeared for the key, and/or arenāt using your personals. When the first one dies which means the unavoidable AoE only happens once instead of twice, itās a no-brainer pack. Note, those casts go off and people have to be healed up quickly but that happens far faster than a 10 second window so even IF they spawn during the overlapped casts, there is a lot of time to heal first, dispel affix after (or for DPS to even dispel the affix during).
Iām not saying people should āget gudā Iām just saying compared to every other affix, the only one easier than Afflicted is Entangling and it is infinitely easier than most of the older more punishing affixes.
Trust me on this, 30 second spawn rate, maximum of two spawned, 10 second cast time, as a DPS evoker I have enough time to deal with both spawns if the healer is struggling. I think the only time I would think this particular affix would be troublesome would be if it was Tyrannical on Worm boss of NL because I would usually be using my dispel on the poison instead.
Things that kill people in dungeons this week will be dungeon mechanics that will kill them any week, not the affix.
Also, pot meet kettle. When your opening statement is āNo one here has any experience with this stuff and doesnāt know what they are talking aboutā then clearly, you must be timing 28s already this week, yeah? No. Didnāt think so, Iām speaking for the content that average players can do, there are minor tweaks that can be improvements such as visibility but it is far from being a āHard because blindā issue because we have fights like Sarkareth where you have purple on purple on purple effects but people can still do it. Finding the guys spawning and casting a 10 second cast is even easier to deal with than Thundering with an addon telling you what to do.
I honestly donāt know why they didnāt put them on boss frames. I was hoping they would do this during the PTR phase to match what they did with the healing seeds on Prototype Pantheon in Sepulcher. Should have been a no-brainer.
Those seeds also displayed their friendly health bars by default regardless of whether you had friendly nameplates on I think, though that might have just been Plater doing it.
At least one person gets it. Iām not even running high levels. My highest is 16s across the board, and these problems become apparent. People love to talk a big game. If any of them were in 20s I guarentee theyād wipe the group.

If you check dispels, will noticeā¦ You only need two people (sometimes just one) to deal with the affix. During that entire run, several affix casts got off. Two sets were LoSed (2nd pull and the first pull after the first boss) and had zero effect on the normal run strategy. One cast got off that affected the party in the middle of the run, had no affect on if anyone lived or died. The last cast got off from a hidden mob spawning after killing the trash in front of the last boss with a cast that finished after the pull. No one died because it was a boss on Fortified, was just a mild inconvenience for a few seconds during the opener.
The group wiped two times: One on a trash pull of random-target RNG instagibbing one person after the other, the other was at the end of the bridge before the last boss when the tank walked up and just instantly died. Affix had no hand in it whatsoever. Still timed. /shrug
Do you happen to have a link to that Plater script? Iāve been searching Wago and canāt seem to find it. Ideally Iād like the afflicted NPCs to have nameplates for easier targeting, but donāt really want to clutter my screen with ALL the friendly name plates.
- Set nameplates to stacking.
- Still not be able to see jack squat.
- Hope you clicked the right one.
- 85% chance success.
What you should actually do
- Install addon that creates 100% success.
Iāve had success with general mouseover macros working on them. Donāt have to target them that way. However, I have a hard time seeing them, especially when they are inside a pack. We even had one hiding behind a tree in freehold. I wish they had a highlight glow or something. The white ghost appearance is easy to overlook.
Most of the time I deal with the affix myself. You are derailing a thread to stroke your epeen. The point of my thread was to ask people if they also had trouble targeting the ghost when itās inside of a pack and ways to get it.
It is suddenly 404 on wago and that is unfortunate.
I do question this gameās design when players are condescendingly telling each other to install third party addons to even functionally play the game.
Genuinely, donāt target them. Bind the mouseover macro I typed out above (with your spell in itās place) to your mouse wheel, and just roll over them. It works very well.
I donāt like this affix very much either, so I feel you.
Happy to help!
Are you using Plater? I am, and afflicted doesnāt seem to work with it. Since afflicted mobs are considered a friendly player their health bar doesnāt seem to be customizable (I believe this is blocked by Blizzard). This results in a super tiny health bar. If you have a workaround for this please share.
Iām using Threat Plates, but Iām able to see their plates without seeing group members.
This is the official response from Plater:
This is not an issue of Plater.
Blizzard enforces default nameplates for friendly units in dungeons and raids, so ensure that all blizzard options (CVars) are setup to show friendly NPCs at all times. e.g.:
- always show nameplates
- disable āhide blizzard healthbarsā
- enable friendly NPCs
- enable friendly nameplates
- set blizzard name options to show all NPCS
I def agree with this. If people are that dependent on outside addons to fix in game issues there is an issue with the game.
I attempted (1 complete, 1 someone bailed) 2 16s on my resto druid today and it was unpleasant to say the least. Iāve come to the conclusion itās impossible for me to get a 2nd afflicted, once I dispel one and try to heal another I canāt get it healed all the way unless my instant CDs are up - which they usually arenāt because I like to actually use most of my spells to be an effective healer.
Additionally, the worm boss in NL is even more hell, as I need my dispel on that boss but now itās taken up by afflicted. We wiped once on that boss and the keyholder left so that was the end of that.
Other issues is it spawning partially in a wall or way too far away from the group.
Both groups had a dps sham, but tbh it always seems like people donāt use their dispel buttons in instances even for what they are normally intended for. People need to utilize the abilities they are given. Yes some arenāt used often, but they can make a big impact when they are.
Honestly I think someone at bliz has a vendetta against healers.
The old m+ adage is every affix is a healer affix. Sucks blizz doesnāt know how to make affixes that can only be controlled by dps or something. Inb4 raging bursting etc, because in pugs those are healer affix as well. They will never be able to because of the timer.
Your DPS shamans should have had cleanse at least, poison totem for backup. I just leave groups if Iām the only one cleansing the thing. If thereās multiple classes with cleanse, and they donāt, I leave. Not doing it. Been carrying DPS for years. Iām done.
Hey, I use the basic UI also and have only done one key this week, I use my hunter for keys so I donāt have to target them much if at all, but I do find the nameplates overlapping even with a nearly perfect m+ nameplate frame setup.
8-10 nameplates stacking at once does make it rather difficult.
Edit: sorry for the toxic replies, forums are a cesspool
