Never played Hunter before, advice

What Spec is the best to level? Beastmaster
What Spec is the best for low level pvp? Marksman
What pet should I prioritize to get? Pets like Wolves that get leech/hero.

MM is op in all level bgs if you play it properly. Also gotta stick with your team, make the enemies have to go through all your buddies to get to you since you can drop them so fast with burst rotation.

Wolves only offer a slow. You want a Scalehide for pet tanking until you get a Clefthoof as BM once you get Exotic Beast Training.

You also want a Crane or Stag for dungeon and raid runs as they have a soothe. They will be replaced be a Spirit Beast once you get Exotic Beast Training (and when you can find one).

A Bat or Nether Ray is also good to have for dungeons so that you have access to Bloodlust if no one in the group can provide it and they have a soothe.

Finally, a Hyena, Rodent, or Raptor is good for PvP due to Mortal Wounds and Master’s Call. BM hunters can also opt for a Silithid as their enhanced speed and slowing ability make them hard to shake off.

A good raid pet is the Core Hound as well for their lust, so im not sure how useful they are now.

just stick to rogue less headache that way…

In comparison to what? Spirit Beasts have a soothe and a heal that is actually pretty good right now. Bats and Nether Rays offer a soothe in addition to Bloodlust if there are no Mages or Shamans present (unlikely in a raid). All of these offer better functionality than a Core Hound which only has a 1 minute shell shield which is unlikely to be needed in a raid and an ability that does damage when they take melee attacks (you won’t need this).

I leveled Survival spec and continue to play it. The harpoon talent at level 15 allows it to reset it’s cooldown after killing a mob, making questing out in the world significantly funner than it should be.

I miss how old pets used to be, where they actually had unique abilities, such as Quilens/moths/cranes having a res and in general.

BM is the easymode spec specifically redesigned for new players. I actually suspect that it’s the real reason every race can be hunter now - Blizzard figured many new players would go for something with pets, so they made sure the spec with an emphasis on pets was super easy to learn. It’s pretty smart.

It’s always been that easy with the Exotic Beasts, with very good appeal of ease and customization.

The answer to all your questions is BM Hunter. The best pet is a spirit pet.

Thanks! Yes, it’s very useful for any situation where you would want to use MD.

#showtooltip Spirit Mend
/cast [target=mouseover,help,exists,nodead][@player]Spirit Mend

Here’s one for anyone who happens to be using a Spirit Beast as a pet. Like the previous one, this has a similar structured “mouseover” condition as the nr1 prio.

If the cursor isn’t over any friendly unit/unitframe(incl your own pet ofc) then Spirit Mend will be automatically cast on you, the player.
If wanted, you can just replace the “@player” with “@Ghorak” (your character name or anyone else’s).
Even “@pet” works if you always want to use your pet’s Sprit Mend on the pet itself.

That macro that Ghorak just posted is really important. It’s common for Hunters to put mend on autocast because it’s one less thing to track but that means it often won’t be there when you need it. Always use it manually and figure out when it needs to be used.

Also remember it can be used on other people, not just the Hunter. I like using it to help heal the boss at the end of Temple of Sethraliss.

Indeed.

The mouseover function is there as the top prio so you always have the option to pick whoever you want to use it on without having to target anyone or have anyone set to Focus-target.

Just place the cursor on top of their character/unitframe/yourself/your pet etc. and use the macro. No target switching needed.

And, as Spirit Mend is a pet ability, it won’t be affected by you using your own abilities or the GCD so, no need to time that either.

The only small gripe I have with this ability nowadays, is that it still has a 25 yard range(based on the location of your pet). So, if the target you want to use it on is not in range of your pet(within 25 yards), you will have to wait for your pet to make it’s way towards the intended target so it can cast it.

Honestly, why couldn’t they just make it have a 40 yard range like your own abilities?

Anyway…

Dont, hunters not worth the time and effort anymore to play. Play destro or dh like everyone else.

They aren’t huh?

Beg to differ…
