Aren’t WC1 and WC2 not considered canon? I just finished the orc invasion book and I was having a hard time seeing how Garona was half human given she was alive prior to the gate being opened.

Parts of it still are. However a lot of it got retconed after the years. Mainly via novels like Rise of the Horde, The Last Guardian and Chronicles vol 2.
In that post I also mentioned that Garona being a half Draenei was a retcon.
