Never going to finish this engineering work order quest

The only thing i can think of is that for Engineering specifically you can specialize into a talent called Function over Form which lets you slot 3 extra attachments when crafting battle gear.

I’d imagine people wanting the BEST crafted gear and would put in an order to find an engineer that specifically chose that talent.

Only ENG orders I have seen were for the Soul Inhaler (takes Scrap spec up to a point) and the higher level Samophlange (takes crafter rep, not any renown, to get the schematic).

Leatherworking on my Hunter on the other hand a lot of the PvP gear that people post the recipes to make at high prices on the AH, so the commission fee can be laughably low if one is buying the patterns from the AH.

I think the bigger selling point is the ability to get BoP gear crafted for you though the work orders, the AH will be fine for BoEs and the like, but BoPs will only be obtainable by those without the profession via the work orders.

Like Scribes make the books to increase prof knowledge, but they are BoP so they can’t make them to sell on the AH.

Even if it was a reskin of that store mount we got back with Mechagon, this is a pretty frickin’ good idea, Duffle.

But how about both?

As an engineer I am not used to getting much these days so I will ruminate in the possibility

Either nobody is requesting Orders for my profession or I have a severe lack of understanding on how work orders… well… work

That is exactly what you can do.

Get on an alt and request 5 engineering items that are easy for you to craft, and specifically make the crafting order personal for your main so that no one else can fill the order. Then get on your main, fill the orders and BAM, done.

There have been zero work orders any time I’ve checked on my server.

So either there are people camping them and I can’t compete, or no one is placing them.

Either way, it’s really stifling any joy in the system because profession leveling is clearly designed around there being available work orders to fulfill.

The Khaz’gorite tools that engi can craft require rep to unlock the recipes,

Lapidary’s Khaz’gorite Clamps, JC rare profession tool - Requires renown 19 with Valdrakken.
Khaz’gorite Brainwave Amplifier, Engi rare profession helm - Requires Valued with the Artisan Consortium. Takes way longer than Valdrakken rep
Khaz’gorite Encased Samophlange, Engi rare profession tool - Requires Valued with the Artisan Consortium. Takes way longer than Valdrakken rep

Most of the Rare quality recipes are gated behind some sort of rep/renown OR RNG.

Yes, but even if the books were BoE, they could still have a one-week cooldown.

The higher end crafted gear could also be BoE, but upgraded or activated through a BoP item or currency. (We had something like that in Legion 7.3.)

In other words, it would have been completely possible to realize the profession revamp without the clunky crafting order system.

But recent devs are clearly intent on forcing more community interaction and creating more friction where it didn’t exist before.

This, for real. I’ve been using all my alts to supplement all my other alts’ professions this expansion and it’s pretty fun once you lean into it a little. It seems pretty obvious they give you the ability to specify ‘personal’ crafting orders for a reason.

I’m glad I never got into professions in this game for the most part. Find them boring, and unfun tbh. Production ones anyways. Skinning is the only one I ever really bother with, because most of the stuff you kill in this game you can skin/achievement lol. Only time I bothered leveling anything outside of gathering was Mop, and Wod. Mop they made things like fishing, and cooking fun for once. Wod there wasn’t much else to do, if you didn’t progression raid. Work orders sounds too much like real life work lol.

Can confirm use an alt to place personal work orders and use you engineer to fill them to complete the quest.

I sent mats to a guild mate and had them make 5 orders for the fishing pole then promptly finished the quest.

I don’t understand the rules for this. I thought crafting orders would include every recipe, but all of our engineering stuff is left out.

We can’t make grenades or anything lmao.

What’s the point of this? Why on earth would you spec into EZ-throw when you can’t even complete crafting orders? its not like there aren’t boes on the crafting order page.

It took me all of 3 minutes on each of my engi. I logged in my druid gatherer and sent them orders for mining equipment. You don’t need to wait on other people, just do it.

which is a clear failure of the system. Theres barely any demand for anything.

What they should have done was make every recipe from every profession available through crafting orders.

It is just a ui for custom ordering non-commodity items. They made it flexible enough so that you can just advance it yourself if you have a quest requirement or other special purpose for it. You can’t get stuck with it. It is really nice, but understand what it is. The only reason to have commodity orders would be to artificially inflate your mastery. They wouldn’t need to do that, all they would have to do is shorten the mastery grind and not add the ui bloat of a second place to dump commodities. What people are complaining about is that crafting mastery grind is intended to be long enough to feel rewarding to finish.
