Both! I keep my team alive AND I make content go 10% faster! All by using my DoTs and free spells!
Wow. Check the toxicity on this guy. Wanting to be a contributing member of a party? Unbelievable.
I have been a healer since wrath, i am a healer and always have been adapting to how this game functions. if they reduce our damage to be as 1/5 its current potency thats such a drastic nerf. and you want to nerf us because you dont feel like dps’ing?
So let’s say they buff every other DPS class by whatever amount it would take to cover up for the 9% damage loss you’re taking. Say that content is completed equally as fast as before, but your contribution is reduced to 1% damage instead of 10% damage. This gives the DPS more responsibility for ~85-90% of the damage output, thus fulfilling their role.
Would that be upsetting to you? You’re still completing content just as quickly as before, you’re still able to cast a spell for every GCD. The only difference is that your final damage numbers are lower than before.
So if my role is DPS, does that mean I don’t cc, stun, interrupt, or off heal/off tank in any circumstance and I just let the group fail?
Yep, I don’t wanna maintain multiple sets of gear. I want to be self sufficient on my healers, including levelling and world content. I’ve been able to do this for awhile now.
Yes? It’s fixing a problem that doesn’t exist! Plus, it’s a measure of game mastery to be able to weave DPS between heals.
Plus, it doesn’t actually change what I do during downtime. If the tank is at 90%, I cast Holy Fire so I can contribute to party damage. All you’ve done is make leveling worse.
I’ve been playing healers since Classic. My first character was a Ret paladin who ended up wearing a healing dress every time I actually wanted to go on a raid. I was a Holy Paladin in TBC, and now I’m also a Holy Paladin in TBC Classic. And you know what? I love being a holy paladin in TBC Classic. Sure, I wish I had Beacon of Light, but I’ll get it in WotLK.
WotLK is when game design peaked. It started sliding in Cata and beyond, and every class became less unique and less fun over time. Healing as a role is a shadow of its former self, and I miss having fun as a healer.
I love, love, love Classic, but I’ve done all that content before and it’s mostly just a nostalgia trip. I just wish there was new content I could play with some of that same style and flavor.
thanks but no thanks. if u dont want to do dmg as heals just do low mythics and lfd pls.
The problem that exists is the toxic belittlement of healers who want to spend their time healing instead of DPSing. Just look at the posts in this topic. People assume I don’t know how healing works, they assume I can’t effectively use my GCDs because I click targets in the raid UI, they assume I’m “too bad” to click DPS buttons from time to time.
I’ve said the truth a bunch of times: Clicking filler damage spells is boring to me. I get tired of it. I don’t want to do it. I don’t want to click a button or press a key every 1.5 seconds for fear of getting yelled at for low damage while queued as a healer
Then don’t do PUGs. Stick with a party that accepts a zero-DPS healer.
I’m gonna keep doing pugs.
Then don’t be surprised when you’re asked to contribute to DPS. I do. Even if my DPS ultimately would count for 0.1%, I’m going to push myself for it because it helps my team.
and thats great but you do realize that healing changed in the six years from classic to wrath not sure why its harder to accept that it happened in the 8 years from wrath to current.
We can chalk it up to Civil Disobedience.
Yes, and in all ways the changes made it more satisfying to heal people.
I will say I enjoyed a certain period of time for Resto druids when Wrath was a healing spell–you attacked the enemy and it healed a nearby ally for some amount of the damage done. That was satisfying. It was damage while still healing, which kept people topped off in low-stress situations.
That was sort of fun. I wouldn’t mind something like that, damage spells that provide some small amount of healing. I just don’t like the idea of being a healer that just deals straight damage for the sake of damage. I don’t know if Disc is still like this, but for a while at least, Smite also absorbed damage off the target’s next attack. things like that, damage with some utility? I love that.
I hate spells that are just straight damage and nothing else at all. That’s not why I pick healer.
Your healing procs free casts of Smite, and vice versa. You’re getting healing benefit from DPSing.
Research the ENTIRE kit of your class.
I don’t play a priest. That’s not my class. My main healing class these days is a Shaman.
So figure out how to weave DPS between Shaman heals. You’re the one that has to find the balance, not me. I’ve already found it.
dont you get benefit from casting lighting bolt and vesper totem?
